Well i finally got a job offer today, not what i would have expected when i was laid off from my engineering position in December. But i had an interview yesterday and i got to call tonight, I will be the newest salesman to the Local Ford dealer.

Never pictured myself as a car salesman but I have been unemployed and living off state unemployment checks for 3 months now...All those years at circuit city and retail sales paid off i guess. even if i don't "love" the job i get a discount on mustang parts and that will hopefully balance things out. we will just have to wait and see.

congrats! one key piece of advice for you. learn the products inside and out. product knowledge is key to success when selling cars. nobody likes an uninformed salesman.

Yeah i have always been the "know your product type"...I try to be an expert in my area when ever i am doing a job...I knlow when i bought my stang the guy didnt have a clue about any of the technical questions i had, I knew the answers before i asked and was testing him and he didnt have a clue.

Good luck man. From one salesman to another (I'm in insurance sales), keep hustling and don't get lazy. When you are on commission, you only have yourself to look at when you want a raise! It should be a lot of fun.

Good luck with the new job. 3 years ago I used to sell Ford's. You will quickly learn tricks to all the customers who are afraid that salesman are evil guys who are looking to overcharge you. A couple bits of advice, don't hang out with the guys who complain about how slow times are or qualify people once your "UP" has stepped on the lot. This one middle eastern fellow came in one day I was off. He asked the nearest salesman for help and said he was looking at some trucks for his boss. After a few minutes, the salesman lost interest and told the guy to find him when the boss was coming in. Offended (as the customer should be), the customer telephoned his boss (CEO of Shell gas) and they bought 30 F-150's from the next willing salesperson. Everyone deserves time to wallow over a buy and respect a salesperson who busts their rear end to make them happy. Send thank you cards, birthday cards, and even call every once it a while to check on their satisfaction. Your CSI will be based soley on COMPLETLEY SATISFIED letters that FORD and your dealership mail to new buyers. Once again good luck to you, you have the potential to make as much as you are willing to put in to it.
