On a 90 GT... removed bell housing and 3 or 4 inch long steel cylinder hit floor.

We were removing the bell housing when the throwout bearing and a mysterious piece of steel (3 or 4 inches long and cylinder shaped...hollow on the inside) hit the floor. Can someone please tell me what this piece is? Thank you so much for any help you have to offer.

Bearing retainer?

I belive you're right. But how in the world did it break? Isn't the bearing retainer a one piece that bolts to the front of the tranny? Or is it a 2 piece?

if the "tube" was steel then yes it would be a two piece. the steel tube is pressed into the aluminum mount that is bolted to the front of the trans. maybe the aluminum cracked and it vibrated out? bad press in?

Thats one of the upgrades in a z trans i think is the all steel shaft/retainer?I'm sure you can buy them? peace

Def replace it.

Downside is you now need to reshim your input shaft on the t-5 to install it correctly as tolerances between a 19 year old retainer and a new steel retainer are more than likely not the same.
