im looking to get a 302 block out of a f150 for my 88 gt what is the diffrence between my stock 302 and the 302 out of the trucks? Is it just the heads and the blocks are pretty much the same or is there a big diffrence

1988 and up 302 trucks came with roller blocks but had flat tappet cam until around '91 before the roller showed up in the trucks. some of the older trucks could have non roller blocks in them.

Question: Weren't the 85+ truck engines roller blocks? i could have sworn that the block, heads, and intake on the 86 Stang were all brought over from the previous year's trucks.

basically from research and from reading all '88 and up trucks have the roller block for sure. in '85 all H.O. manual transmission stangs got roller blocks the auto's did not. some '85 and "all" '86 stangs and cars had roller blocks just not all had roller cams. not sure if trucks made it out with any but from what I have read doubt it, after '90-'91 they got roller cams. This is from stuff I have read, best thing to do is measure the deck height and check the block #'s if it's an older truck to make sure.

here is some quick more info here..

That's what I was thinking :D

In '91 they used a race block, crazy what they do for certian years or models.

the motor im looking at is out of a 91 bronco, did they use the race block in the bronco's also? I also have done some research and sounds like the best way to tell if a motor is a roller is to pull a valve cover and look for a dogbone around the lifter. How would you know if it was a race block with out checking block numbers?

have no idea I stumble across that info myself. you would have to check the #'s and find out that way from some one who knew. The best bet if you are looking at truck motors is check out the bronco forums or ford truck forums for block #'s etc.
