What would you guys do?

Try to get a 2012 or 2013 boss assuming they are ~40k or keep the 93. and throw 10-20k at it to make it whatever I want it to be?

To play both sides, I love everything I am hearing/seeing about the new Boss 302's. However 35 or 40k is a lot of money to drop on a car. I really dont like car payments. My truck is an 07 and almost paid for (~2k left) and I was looking forward to not having to make anymore payments. I also tend to really drive the piss out of cars. Im not the guy who babies cars and obsesses about paint flaws, perfect interiors, etc.

I am leaning towards keeping the 5.0 though. It has 186k miles on it and has a tired drivetrain so its due for an upgrade anyway. I've had this car since I was 18 (28 now) and used it as our getaway car when I got married this year so it means a lot to me. As you guys know though, foxes are getting older and take a lot of work to keep going. It needs things fixed/replaced on the interior, burns a little oil, overheats with the a/c on in the summer, has a small coolant leak from the heater core that causes me to refil the overflow tank twice a year. But, I've pretty much replaced the entire front suspension, painted the front bumper for the wedding (paint flaking) have 3.73s, new clutch, most of a 5 lug/rear disc brake swap in the garage and could easily get +400hp with a charger and hci swap.

I really enjoy driving the fox and am not sure I could part with it ever so I as shocking as it sounds, leaning towards keeping the fox and getting it where I've wanted it ever since I got the car 10 years ago. Any thoughts?

I have been tossing around that same idea, however...i have decided to keep the fox. A clean, nice fox is harder to come by than a shiny new 5.0. Also, I would never pay the new sticker price of that vehicle (especially the BOSS$$$) I will let someone else pay and go through the sticker shock of a brand new car. You can always find a clean, low mile car this year, next year, whenever....and they will be much cheaper with a few miles on it. JMO

Plus, let's face it, nice foxes are becoming cooler and cooler with age. Where I live (midwest) you don't see clean foxes running around very often. Yours might be high mileage, but you can tighten up all those loose ends rather quickly and cost effective. I say keep it, and maybe make a decision later when there are some used 5.0's or Bosses out there :flag:

IF you were considering a new GT, I'd step through this monitor and smack you. In 5 years, everybody and their brother will have a 2011 GT and it will be yesterday's news. HOWEVER, the Boss is a limited edition car and I think it will be a legendary car just like the original Boss 302. It will be the car that people still talk about 40 years from now.

THAT makes it a tough call. Can you keep the Fox and just not spend money on it?

Given the options of putting more money into an older car that will only continue to depreciate and require constant mechanical upkeep, or going for something brand-new that already has a lot of awesome upgrades and starting over fresh... I would have to go with the new Boss mustang. Seems like it would be a better financial investment in the long run... and not to mention very exciting! :D
However, I do understand wanting to hang on to something you've had for a long time. And true... it is a lot of money and an extra car payment. It's a difficult choice that only you will be able to make in order for you to be truly happy with it.
Good luck! :nice: Keep us posted!

I imagine the Fox isn't going to depreciate much more if any, and a new car can only go down in value.

TS: I'd say if you can swing it get the Boss and keep the Fox. However, it will be tough not being able to put money into making the Fox better while you make payments on the new car.

All things considered, if your current fox isn't strong enough for you, buy a slightly used/heavily depreciated new Mustang that you want and sell your fox for what you can get (or keep it if you can for posterity since they aren't worth much). This way, you'll have a fresh car to play with and if you take good care of it will serve you well for years to come.

I think putting 10-20k into your old Mustang would be a bad move, for so many reasons, including the loss of the money, all of the time and still ending up with an old, heavily worked over fox.

It all depends on what you want to do and how much time you want to invest, coupled with the money factor.

I've thought about this a lot this past week and I think I am going to stick with the fox for a variety of reasons. I realize I will never get any money I put into the car back out of it. Knew that a long time ago. Still I think in the long run it will be cheaper to keep the fox. Like someone said the Boss is going to be collectors items so there will always be one still in the wrapper somewhere if I decide to buy one down the road. I already have 4 other cars so having a seperate DD from the fox is not a problem. With that being said, I have to go make a Christmas list for car parts for the Wifey to buy :D

I owned a new Mustang for a while. Bought an '03 GT new. I LOVE having a new car, but it's cookie cutter IMHO. Yes, the Boss Mustang is a unique ride, but we said the same thing about the Mach 1 7 years ago. Now when you pull up next to a nice Mach 1, it just seems so...common. I see so many Mustangs on a daily basis that seeing an '11 5.0 now is routine...and in a few years won't even bat an eye really.

Fox's are tough to see on the road, and that's why I love mine. Everytime i go out, it's just unique and not something you see every day.

On the flip side, the new stangs are vastly more superior and I'd love to be in a new car again. Cozy, rattle free ride, nice stereo, A/C, NAV, HID's, Glassroof, LEather, New....what's not to like except for the payments?

I like my fox because it has character...but if I were to choose between only having 1 car, and between a new and old Mustang....i'd rather drive an '11 V6 over a Fox Mustang. I just love the creature comforts of new cars. Old cars....are old.

For me I will die old school and it's just crazy funny when I drive by the popo with my notch and they give me a smile and a nod. Like yeah baby that's a mustang. Also I appreciate not having the high insurance premiums and a monthly payment. Just makes me love my old school whip even that much more.:nice:D

Here's what I'm thinking.

Upgrade suspension in your car to tighten her back up. Fix your leaks.

Save up some coin for when the new 5.0's start ending up in the bone yards.

Install new 5.0 under the hood...400+ hp and with the driveabilty a Focus. Realistically, an uncorked 5.0 would be closer to 430-ish hp.

If you really want to spruce her up, throw a Cobra IRS in the back for a nicer ride.

All of that advice is pretty bad, but the part about a financial investment...... The new car is going to drop by thousands of dollars in value the second you sign the paperwork, buying a car brand new is the worst possible investment, theres 100% chance you arent going to get your money back. Fox mustangs have hit about the bottom value wise and its getting harder every year to find a clean one. Values will start going up.

Hold on to the fox and if you really want the new boss then figure out how you can keep both, thats what id do. You know you will kick yourself for selling the fox and you can always buy a used boss down the road

I must admit my reign as king of the streets is in jeopardy once this boss mustang hits the streets. I may have to sell the termy to get one. Cars like this don't come out every day. I have a feeling the 2012 Boss will be a car we'll be discussing with our great grandkids 50 years from now. Get one if u can.

At this point in my life I'd go for the newer Mustang and keep the Fox as a weekend toy. There have been VERY few past Mustangs that I would push my Fox bods aside for but the new GT is definitely one of them. Doesn't even have to be a Boss. The kind of performance people are getting out of bone stock and mildly modded GTs is hard to resist. Not to mention the creature comforts of it being a new car design. I've daily driven Fox bods since '88 and you'll NEVER hear me complaining about comfort but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to have something new.

I still enjoy my cars but I've lost the urge to dump a lot of money in them. Also, having recently bought a new house, which keeps me plenty busy, I don't have much time for wrenching.

If I don't have the option of keeping both then the decision becomes a lot harder. For me the Fox bod usually wins out. lol Easy to maintain/familiarity, no car note, still gets the occassional compliment, not the fastest but still good get-up for the street.

Yeah I don't know what it is but something always sends me back to the fox. I think its things like the sounds of the uninsulated metal doors closing, sound of a pushrod 302, light weight chasis to sling around, or maybe just the flares on the fenders. Not really sure, but it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. Plus as was said its paid for. I saw the regular Boss 302 is going to sticker at 41k. By the time you add in dealer markups its probably a little out of my price range. Theres an 11 gt500 that wouldn't be much more. If there end up being some leftover on lots I might reconsider however I doubt that will happen. I remember when 03 cobras came out and they were 5-10k marked up. Ouch!

I've gone the built-Fox route but I can see why others would go for a new one. As has been said, my thoughts on it are that, no matter what, they're still "just" a (Bullitt, Cobra, Saleen, Mach 1, etc.). So unless you plan on modifying it you shouldn't expect it to keep its badass image for too long, at least in many people's opinion.

when i got off work today i walked out the door to see a brand new cobra gt 500 and with recaros and made a remark to a fellow worker why can't we have one for the weekend?i definately would give it a serious thought the boss will be a remarkable car.good luck
