BREMBOS and a flat tire

With BREMBOS you get no spare tire or jack and just an inflator kit.

I've just ordered a 2012 GT with BREMBOS and was wondering if anybody has experienced a flat or near flat tire and had to use the kit??

If you have used the inflator kit:
* Did it get the job done?
* What had to be done to the tire at the shop to remove the sealer?
* Did the sealer effect to Tire Pressure Monitior?
* Did you have to replace the entire inflator kit or just the sealer?
* What did it cost to replace the kit or sealer?

I haven't used the kit, but I have an 11 gt w/brembo package and just opened the trunk for the first time in 4 months of owning the car. The kit has the "slime" can attached to the compressor. Maybe screwed in. The label says it's one time use and expires in 2014.
FYI, I would never use the slime stuff in a tire. It'll crap up your tire valve and no shop will patch the tire on the inside with that slop all over the inside. I've used the "gummi worm" plugs over a dozen times over the past 15 years of driving, even motorcycle tires, and they last the life of the tire without bleeding air. They're cheap and you plug the tire without taking the wheel off. Spare tires have been pointless for all the times I've had a flat.

I didn't know the Brembos had tpms. For some reason I thought they came without them. How do I see what my tire pressures are at on the dash? I just filled my tires to 35psi the other day from the upper 20's, and didn't have any light telling me they were low or anything. What's the point of the tpms?

Your 'slime' response may be correct but I would be surprised if the slime screwed up the tire to the point if you get a nail, the slime can't be cleaned up and a replacement might be necessary.

The 'worm' fix obviously works for you but I've always been under the impression that a worm fix is a no no and a hot patch type of repair is the only way to go. . . assuming the nail is near center tread.

Pressure monitors . . .I'm ASSUMING that all the cars have it but they only tell you when you are low on pressure and 20lbs showing when 35 is called for, so you got me. Maybe the 19" doesn't come with it.

Maybe if we get more responses we may get more info.
 
keep a little kit with needle nose pliers, a plug kit, and the tire inflator in your car.

if its in the tread you can plug it and air it back up
if its in the sidewall goo wont help anyhow
if its a complete blowout goo wont help anyhow

i wouldn't worry about a spare wheel unless i was going on a really long road trip, didn't have the warranty, and maybe if i didn't have AAA.
 
I'm not sure if you can see exact tire pressure of not, but I can tell you that the tire pressure indicator comes on when the pressure is low. I've had it a few times & recently found one of my tires to have a nail in the sidewall. These Pirelli P-Zero's that come on the Brembo equipped '11s are an odd size(255/40 19) which means the tires are outrageously priced. A replacement at Discount Tire is $450 per tire!!!!! Not including tax & tire warranty. I will be replacing mine with something much more reasonable when the time comes.

jbrillo.... in your previous post you said odd size . .. the 2010 model had the same size, didn't it?

Also looking at tirerack.com there are a number of different makes that come in that size. What's your feedback on the makes listed.
 
Be happy you don't have the dealer installed wheel option on the Camaro, it is a 21" wheel. The P Zero is the only tire on TireRack that fits, $415 for a front, $495 for a rear. Good luck finding a quick replacement tire for those sizes in a pinch, 245/40/21 front and 275/35/21 rear. I don't know who decided a 20" wheel isn't big enough.

Would be interesting to hear who has replaced their 2011 19" tires already and with what, approx cost, mileage and type of driving.

I live in Va so it's not summer all year around and winter temps in the AM can be in the high 30's. Wonder if there is a 19" All Season available. . .realizing that there would be a tradeoff in traction for longevity. You might be able to find a set of 18" wheels to fit over your brakes, some GT500 takeoffs might be your best bet if you want to get the option of 18" tires. The Continental ExtremeContact DW or the Hankook Ventus V12 evo should be a good cheaper replacement tire for you on your 19" wheels, if you want to stick with a good summer tire. There are quite a few all seasons on tirerack as well.

Trackpack equipped '10's also have the pump & slime instead of a spare. Haven't had to use mine yet.

Jbrillo P Zero's are expensive not mater what size they are. Hankook Ventus V12s in that size are $173.00ea at Tirerack.com .
 
Had a flat about 4 months ago..
Car is garaged all the time..

went out to move it out of the garage and the TPM light was on.. was aa cold night thought maybe the pressure dropped some.. back it out of the garage and parked it.. noticed the Pass. rear tire was completely flat..

pumped it up without using any sealer.. brought it directly to the tire shop.. there was a hole in the tire right in the tread.. they patch/plugged it.. no problems since..
 
One other thing to keep in mind is that during the 5 year warranty period, Ford has roadside assistance so you can have them just tow your car to the dealership if you get a flat. After your warranty is over, the sealant is going to be expired so you would need to replace it anyway.
 
One other thing most people don't realize is when you use the sealant, both the tire & TPMS sensor will need to be replaced.

Also, any hole fixable with the sealant could also be fixed with a plug; provide you can find the leak. Benefit of plugging a tire is it can be later fixed properly with a PATCH and you've also saved the expence of replacing the TPMS sensor.

FORD's 36k COMPLIMENTARY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE:
If you have a flat tire, they will come out to change your tire for you for NO-CHARGE ... however your car MUST HAVE A SPARE TIRE !! Does not sound like hauling your car away on a flat bed because it has a flat and no spare is part of the FREE service.

The only time I got a flat in the last 20 years it was late at night and it was snowing. The tire on my 1998 Mustang was beyond fixing, so I was really glad that I had a Temporary Spare.

For my current 2011 V6 (no factory spare) I got a 2007 GT Temporary Spare & Jack Kit off of e-bay for $166.00 total delivered. The spare had never been on the ground and the jack kit appeared to have never been used either ... pretty cheap insurance.

What replacement tires are you looking at??

I am thinking about getting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus. 500 treadwear rating & 45,000-mile tread warranty included for $125-less per tire. I'm really good to my tires but I can tell these P-zero's will be lucky to last another 9K miles. It's an all-weather tire too where as the P-Zero's are summer only. Not that I have to worry about snow in Houston. But the temps. do occasionally dip into the 20's and we had some ice a coupe of times which made for some really interesting driving. Also, I have a friend that works for Discount that can get me the Michelins for less than the advertised price.

255/40-19's are not a common tire size amongst vehicles. Therefore, they cost more b/c there's not as many being produced in that size. The 2010 tire size for 19'-wheels are 245/45-19. That's a more common size & tires can be had for far less.
