Fox Or 99-04?

I'd do the 99+. There is something else to consider, and that is that Foxes are just getting older and harder to keep up. The influx of Chinese parts has made it very hard, and good quality original stuff is hard to come by. A friend of mine recently did a full resto on his 93' GT. He spent thousands at LMRS on all new door seals, interior pieces, quarter glass, etc. Guess what, it was all made in China. All the door seals leak, the interior pieces faded to an off color, and the quarter glass got this foggy hew within 6 months.

X1000 I've spent a lot of time gathering original parts just because of this. The lmr parts are hit or miss at best. I've found it better to find oem pieces even if they do cost more.

I would keep the '94 and put your $6K into it. There is nothing wrong with building one. They look bad ass with some wide wheels and tires, and a nice drop.
Dont think he has the $6k unless he sells his 94. I think the delima is he doesnt have the scratch to get his current ride to where he wants it to be and he's hopping to sell it and combine that money w sum more to get a "turn key" finished product. Which even at $6k whatever he gets into is gonna need some TLC more than likely.

That my friend suuuucks.

99+. I have had several foxes and one 02gt. The 02gt was faster, more comfortable and more reliable. It took better to simple mods. It was actually easier to work on imo. I now have two foxes but i just love the look of a fox. Neither are my DD though. I would love to add a 99+ gt again but i am pretty sure i wouldnt be married any longer.

I don't think 6K is enough. I'm around 12K in mine and that is only the cost of the car plus engine work. I still need bodywork, paint and suspension re-done.

I would be close to outright affording a new mustang with what I have in the Fox. But, I like the fox. No nanny electronics.

Mine is a daily. Neighbors hate me.

There are a few things on the 4.6 that make it tougher. Doing anything with the exhaust manifolds is a hassle. Also it has a one piece transmission, so doing a clutch is a little bit more of a task. None of it makes it impossible, but you have to be more confident in your abilities.

This. Saying 4.6 cars are easier to work on is debatable. Try longtube headrs in one, and get back to us on that. I bought one with them installed already and changing gaskets was ridiculous. You have to pull the k member. The non pi intakes are garbage and the pi ones aren't much better... not difficult to change but a problem nonetheless. +1 on the one piece trans too. I just passed on a 97 cobra that needed a clutch for that sole reason. The longtubes make it tough.

I would say it's a trade off. Some things are easier, some are harder. Obviously anything you do with the exhaust like longtubes is harder. On the other hand, I can change the whole intake out on a 4.6 in 20 minutes. Most of the parts you change on a 4.6 on a regular basis are actually easier. I always thought the 4.6 engine in the Mustang was a mistake. It's not that it was worse than the 5.0, but it honestly performed about the same when Ford should have been moving on to bigger and better things like Chevy was doing at the time. The 4.6 was status quo and a lot harder to get power out of than a 5.0. The aftermarket refused to deal with it for half a decade and by the time the pi head came on the Mustang, Chevy was making those monster 350hp LS1s. For the sake of this discussion though, I would go with a new edge. The OP seems more interested in having a car to drive everyday, and there is nothing in a 4.6 that would negatively effect his decision. He likely won't be putting headers in in it anyway. I don't think I personally would ever buy a GT 4.6, because all I would ever think about would be getting the most out of the engine, and that would start with a 4 valve head, which is cost prohibitive.

On a side note, I'm pretty sure the 97' Cobra came with a two piece bellhousing and transmission. There was a T5, a T45, and then the 3650 that came on the 4.6s. I know the 3650s were one piece, and the T5s were two piece. Can't remember with the T45.

I would do the paint job. That's why I said that. I like my 94 and have put a lot of work into it. I just feel like I want something else. I'm getting my 2010+ in two years when our sonata is paid off. So Ishould just keep dumping money into the94 and sell it when the time comes. Or keep and go balls out with it lol

The 2014 mustang is actually my dream car. I get the damn chills when I see one drive by. Then I get mad cuz jealousy sets in lol. Then I look back at my 94 and I am happy to own it. All the work I've done has come a long way. I haven't had the car too long but its night and day the way the car runs drives and looks. But still needs a tonhhere's what I'm up to now

I have the money/credit to go get the 2014 tomorow. But that would prob be the dumbest decision of my life since I'm already in a loan for the 2012 sonata. It would be smart to just keep the 94. Its gonna need a rebuild on the bottom end soon. 164k miles on it. It runs strong tho. It used to chug and was slower then :poo:. But put er on the lift found about a thousand rust holes in the 2yr old MAC exhaust system and found where the h pipe met the second piece that's connects to the wheaders were completely rusted out only thing holding them together were the clamps. Basicly a 1 inch space all the way around the pipe rusted out. So I patched that all up for now. Runs 100xs better and actually pretty fast compared to before. I pulled the intake manifold and foun out its been worked on. And thrww it on the dyno at my buddys engine shop it made 249 rwhp. So I think there's more then just a port job on the intake I think the heads are done too. That was a nice little surprise. I bought the car knowing nothing about it. Only what I could find out for myself in the test drive. To get it where I'm happy would be rebuilt forged bottom end teickflow top end nice hood wheels paint and a nice sound system. I know the engin e would cost roughly 4500-5000 that's from rick. Paint and other work ill do myslef.

I loathe the S197 platform. It's like Ford just gave up on the Mustang in principle. It's unfortunate because they are definitely going in the right direction with the Coyote engine. I haven't made up my mind on the 2015. I haven't seen one or sat in one yet.

One of the newer 5.0s got me in the canyons. I couldn't touch him in the turns. On a straight we were pretty close to equal. Sounded like he had at least intake and exhaust.

I like the 99+ for dependable DD, but beware when u look for a 99+ mustang, ask how long ago it change the plug, cause these engine know to blow out plug, most peoples have to recheck and re torque the plug every oil change.

I think 99+ are more for DD, nice fox is belong in the garage ^^

I had a 98 GT for a couple years and i never had that problem. only changes from NPI to PI was intake and cams mostly.
