Just grabbed in November of this year. 2004, was shopping New Edge Cobras but this popped up for a nice price and I kind of liked the look of it better. Never owned a mustang before so it's quite a change from my earlier Camaros and Firebirds. It's more comfortable, sounds better, looks better... let's see what the future holds for it. Have to repair a few things off the bat but nothing outrageous. Did the plugs last night (the ease compared to the f-body is absolutely outrageous), new air filter, belt, have fuel filter on the shelf, and need to replace a wonky idler. Clutch cable/FWA/Quadrant coming up this weekend and have a Magnaflow on the way to replace the Borla that came on it. Just saying hi.

I will come right out and say it...

Do NOT use that cable. There... Get an OEM style cable and save yourself a ton of headache and sorrow:

Adjustable cables are the fail on durability.

Edit: Great looking car BTW. :nice: I think the Mach is my favorite for SN cars. Hold onto those Magnum 500's. Don't let anyone talk you out of them. hehe

If you're really aching for a change, find a set of replica deep dish for the rears. :chin

Lovely. Thanks for heads up... again. So can a stock cable can be used with a firewall adjuster so long as I have a double hook quadrant?

https://lmr.com/item/LRS-7553C/82-93-Mustang-Triple-Hook-Clutch-Quadrant

The onus for all of this is the fact that my clutch engages roughly 1/2" off the floor, I am aggressively locked out of 2nd when I run the RPM up in first past 5k, and after searching on those two types of ailments, I see a large conglomerate of owners state that clutch cable adjustment helped their issues. Am I mistaken? (edit: well it appears that stock clutches tend to engage lower... I need to search more)

If yes, then I'll look to return what I have and re-evaluate what to buy. If no, then I guess I have more searching to do. Time has been short to get under the car and have a look under the clutch inspection cover, but I also have barely driven the car so there's not a huge rush.

Oh after many previous cars where I just dump the stock parts almost immediately, I am not getting rid of anything stock that comes off of here, especially the wheels. I will grab a set of something in the future, the short list of "wants" includes a slight drop, wider wheels, and tint.

Thanks

If you're returning the one you have then I'd recommend:

or

This one combined with the cable I posted above.

Maybe someone here has a different experience but the multiple hook quadrants that I've tried on my Fox were nothing more than a gimmick to avoid patent problems.

I've use the MM kit with excellent results. It solved adjustment and shifting issues on my mach. I was amazed at how effortless the spec 3 clutch was after install.

Edit: Now that I think of it I had a steeda quadrant as well. It had a very fast ramp up on it and made quick shifts great. Was a bit tricky to get the adjustment right due to the ramp up. But was great.

Either way, use a cable from MM and a quality adjuster and cable.

Thanks. I'll check out the Max Motorsports one.

While I've got you here, anyone have suggestions on intake? I know the consensus with the Mach 1 is that factory is best and I shouldn't waste my time, blah blah blah... Well, since the stock intake tube is discontinued (and mine being cracked and letting in unmetered air by the truckload), and auto yards dont seem to have many wrecked Mach 1s, I feel forced to buy aftermarket. I prefer a dry filter vs oiled, any input? JLT seems popular...

Congrats on the new car. The intake gives are hard to come by. You're right about most people using JLT. I'm still stock so I can't tell you if they're really going to improve power. If I was in your position I would probably get the JLT.

There is a way to mechanically adjust the stock clutch cable. There is a small lever above the clutch pedal. If the lever is held down, you can pull the pedal upward of the floor. It will make loud clicks as it ratchets upward, adjusting the pedal. Learned it on my old 04 GT. Guy at the ford dealership taught me that. Hold the clutch pedal down with your left foot, work your right foot over the lever above the pedal. Then use your left foot to raise the pedal off the floor while holding the lever down with your right foot.

Thank you. Yep I'm searching over hell and high water for a stock piece as I've heard that the gains with aftermarket are... minimal at best, considering the cost (many just say gears instead). At a point though I'll have to poop or get off the pot, as the car is just sitting and I'd much rather drive it.

Figured I would just add to my current thread instead of chewing bandwidth with another...

Returned the SVE Adjustable cable and have a MM cable/quadrant/adjuster en route, so hope to get that installed soon. Put on a JLT RAI as well, and disconnected the battery overnight to reset the fuel trims, and my random stalling seems to have gone away (though the idle still sometimes hiccups and drops down low like it WANTS to stall, but I have a whole host of other gaskets near the intake tract I will be inspecting).

Got a new Magnaflow I'm itching to install and sell the stingers but time is tough in the winter. Have been driving the car to and from work much more and it's growing on me more and more. Can't wait to get the exhaust changed and go from there.

Finally got the cable changed this past Saturday (hooray long nap by my daughter...). Max Motorsports directions are fairly clear, I mean at the end of the day it's just taking something off and putting something on in place of it. The adjustment of the cable took a couple tries. First start up I could hear what sounded like marbles under my car, guess the TOB wasn't close enough to the pressure plate... after a little more adjustment, got better, though when I tried to shift into reverse at first I got a grind and the speedo shot up to 90mph. Oops =P

Adjusted a bit more, went for a drive, and all seems fine. I honestly can't tell a difference right now, but it was also wet and rainy so any thought of aggressive shifting was out of the question. At least it feels good to know I didn't make it WORSE. When I get some dry weather I'll check out the high RPM shifting behavior. The quality of the piece is nice though, but my goodness they weren't kidding about removing the driver's seat to make things easier. I'm 6'1 and my back was begging for mercy later that evening. At one point I shifted my weight and started to slide the seat forward, crushing me under the dash. Wish I could have seen myself. Found a nasty leak by where the extension housing mounts up with the trans case though, so I'll have to keep an eye on that. Now to get the Magnaflow installed and grab an x-pipe...
