Does that adhesion promoter come in rattle can? I don't have access to a paint gun nor do I have the experience to use one. But I really wanna revive my taillights like you did. So if everything needed comes in rattle can I'll do it. I have buddies that paint but trying to get them to do ANYTHING in a timely manner is practically impossible.
I second this question.

I was also wondering, @Davedacarpainter what size butyl tape you used to put the lenses and housings back together? I need to redo the tails on my '90 Mercury and would like to take them apart and do the chrome paint and clean up the lenses as well.

Yeah Craig, it's in a rattle can. i used a sherwin williams adhesion promoter, but any brand will work.

Isn't it amazing how good they turned out? I say this meaning everyone can get these results, not that i'm a special taillight wizard or something. No filmy look at all.

I'm going to take whatever size our glass guy has. I did him a couple favors so he's taking care of me with my glass and extra butyl for crap like this.

It has to be pretty narrow though, that channel is maybe 1/8" wide. If he has wider stuff, i'll just roll it out like dough to make it a smaller diameter.

The great part about that is I work for Sherwin-Williams(2nd job). So I get a discount! Do you have all the part/product #s? I would like to get the exact same stuff you got.

I'll get the AP # for you on Monday. I used SW's HPC15 clear with UH80 hardener and US2 reducer for the clear.

I'm pretty sure you can get the clear and additives in small quantities. Though we just use the gallon can versions in our shop.

How many does that make for me Dave?,..... There's been so many, I've lost track.. What Is it.......... 5-6?

I've decided that I cannot laud you w/ any more praise than the whole rest of the collective is currently heaping on you. (You do after all still have to be able to fit a respirator over your head,...once it get's too big, it becomes a problem)......But I can "like" the stuff you do all day long. To me, it's just a pat on the back.

Here's an irony for you when comparing our two cars......

Wherein I used JB weld prolifically, you've used paint. My was function based, yours is form...

Hope that's not too deep for you at 7 AM.

Oh good Lord! I'm getting to have a problem that has normally been reserved for stangnetters more anal than me.

I had a light bulb click on in my brain as i've been going through the electrical manual.....what i'm trying to say is.......I........might........just.......enjoy......this ......partofthebuild......There, I've said it now!:ack::zombie: I think i'm about to lose control about the wiring, and i think I like it.

Not that Scott visits us anymore, but @RacEoHolic330 pops to mind about people with the above mentioned sickness.

Here's the major problem with this. After pulling the instrument cluster I discovered the PO wanted things electrical that were beyond factory. Meaning there is bonus wiring there to figure out.

Like an interesting puzzle, it just takes time to discover what needs to be removed and replaced (OMG! It's like Obamacare! Not that bad.....), that's for you Mikey :jester:.

It's weird, and Mike might understand this with his monster, I want to "understand" what those wires do. Plus i have that engine bay coming up and it's exciting rat colony that i'm sure sharpened their little fckin teeth on all of those underhood wires.

I'm lost guys:nonono::nonono::nonono:I'm lost....

Now, I'm afraid i might fix everything....ah jeez!

But understand what i'm saying here! I'll know what these wires do and what each connector means! A lot of those wires are old......they could be replaced! It's a deep, deep hole.....

So I used my new silver paint this morning on the housings. Here's a before and after photos showing how it brightened it up. Keep in mind this is with the bulb shining up through the back of the housing, I would assume the difference will be even more pronounced when the bulb is inside the housing.
