Engine Engine Removal Help?

Hey guys I'm pulling the engine out of my 94 GT and I was wondering if anybody has a list of what to pull out before pulling the engine. Also I'm leaving the tranny in.

So far I've pulled
Upper and lower intake, Fuel rails are pushed to the side. Rad and fan are out, Battery is out, Headers disconnected, and motor mounts disconnected, Power steering and AC are out of the way along with the alternator :D

If anybody has like a check list of things to drop or pull to get just the engine out that would be great! :D

Thank you!

Is this a manual or automatic? If it's a manual leaving the tranny in can make it challenging to get the engine far enough forward to clear the input shaft. And a whole lot tougher to mate it up when you're putting it back in. If it's an auto then you're good to go after you separate the converter from the flexplate, as Ragged mentions starter needs to come out if the tranny stays in (otherwise that spacer plate behind the flywheel won't budge)..

Depending on why I'm pulling the engine (if I'm tearing it down anyways) I find it more manageable to pull the heads first. Just makes the whole package smaller and lighter. And gives you better options for where to mount the chain.

Murphy's law says you'll always miss something - a wire, a strap, a hold-down of some sort. So just lift slowly and check frequently to see what's trying to come up with the engine.

I got the 4 of the 6 tranny bolts I can see for off. I have the tranny under a jack to keep it level right now :D 40 more mins of checking and removing stuff more and I can pull the engine! Waiting for the dam apt managers to go home lmao

Sounds like you figured the tough stuff out already. Leave the clutch on the engine. The clutch cable does have to be pulled though.

Definition of an engine hoist; Device designed to test the tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect.

To pull the engine without trans did you have to disconnect the flywheel and torque converter?

Also nice engine Dan! :D I'm painting mine while its out :) Also I'm crushing my front bumper with the engine hoist bc my dad already broke it so gonna get another from Pick A Part :D

I pulled a 5.0 out of a wrecked 99 auto for my V8 Miata project. I pulled the upper intake, all the accessories and brackets, then just started unplugging stuff. Make sure you label everything so reassembly is much easier. The bumper cover and fenders were not on my project, and it was much easier without them. Just take it slow and check it every few seconds when pulling it, because chances are there will be atleast one thing you forgot to unplug. Haha

Finally got the engine out! Previous owner changed the bands in the tranny and stripped 2 flex plate bolts :( Bumper is fine just need a new front license plate lmao. Time to rebuild the engine :3 Thanks guys for helping with what I missed since this was a first engine pull ever for me lol
