Fuel Throttle Body Id Help

Greetings all. I recently purchased a 1999 GT convertible from a friend to restore / tinker with since I recently retired. I'm currently re-doing the inside... carpet etc. I'm the fifth owner of the pony and it has 186K miles on it. I do not know how many after market parts are on it. My next project is to soup up the engine but I don't have a clue what throttle body I have. How do I determine this with out taking everything off and start looking for part numbers etc? What was the stock throttle body for a 1999 GT? I don't know if it helps but my VIN is 1FAFP45X3XF106166. Also, what would be the best upgrade for the overall engine performance? I have read that if you get to big of a throttle body it could actually degrade engine performance due to too much oxygen and not enough fuel. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

For a big budget upgrade, IMO the best over all power upgrade is a super charger.

For a low budget upgrade, IMO the best place to spend your $$'s is on a Ford service manual. Use it to keep your Mustang running in stock trim.

With the number of miles on the motor you are in the prime area where the timing chains wear out. The service life of the 4.6 is highly affected by oil service. Expect more wear in motors with poor oil service. It's been my experience that often how a car "looks" on the inside and outside is often a good indication of how well the motor was maintained. People that trash out their cars out often don't change the oil either.

Use it to inspect the oil filter for debris at every oil change. I do this as part of regular maintenance. So far finding debris in the oil filter has alerted me to two different issues allowing for repairs to be done before it was too late. Two motor "saves" so far. Even more piece of mind.

WMBURNS, thank you so much for your input. For the miles the oil looks in pretty good shape. I'm by far no mechanic but I suspect somewhere along the way of the life of this pony the engine was overhauled or taken really good care of. I know the person I purchased it from babied it and kept in the garage. With you being a certified SN tech your input is invaluable so thank you again.

If you are looking for a little more oomph I recommend a gear change to 3.73's(AT) or 4.10's(manual) especially since you have 186K chances are the limited slip is worn out and your axles aren't far behind. Yes you will lose some mileage but most engine upgrades will do so also, more fuel burned equals more power(all things being equal). Bigger is not always better, back in my day some dummies would put dual quads(carbs) on stock smaller displacement engines and lose major power except just before blowing up if at all, bigger TB's necessitate big changes to the engine ie forced induction, bigger cams with exhaust and head work etc. OP was right that forced induction is the best bang for the buck and you can stay with stock gears or maybe 3.55's.
