K&n Issues?

The shaker was removed while troubleshooting so that's ruled out.
Had the altenator rebuilt last month but noise was before that, regulator was shot.

That's what I was thinking was a bearing. Only does it on cool days and as long as it's cool out it makes the noise, even after driving around for 30 or so minutes. So motor warming up doesn't affect the noise either.
Only very slightly obstructing the air flow into duct with my hand and not touching either the noise stops or revving up to 1k rpm's .
I sprayed a little throttle body cleaner in the throttle body to see if that would make a difference, it didnt.

When I feel better I'll get the scope out again and see what happens.

This has worked for me while diagnosing a noisy accessory:

WD-40

Spray it on one accessory bearing/pulley at a time. When the noise stops....

Yeah I've used that before but replaced the idler arm and pulley, both idler pulley's in august. The ac compressor was replaced in may since the compressor was leaking and rebuilt the altenator last month from a bad regulator.

It doesn't seem to be a pulley, the loudest area is the air filter box right at the fender. Putting my hand on the air box and air duct you can actually feel the vibration but not anywhere else.

Bulk of my tools, rolling chests, compressor and specialty tools are at my dad's garage right now so when I feel better and get over there I'll go at it with stethoscope.

All the camaros,TA's and trucks I've owned in the last 25 years never had any noise quiet like this before.

No smog pump on the Mach 1.

Just throwing this out there, but I had an odd issue/noise on my Lincoln LS that I thought was tied to the K&N cone I had removed/reinstalled to clean & oil. After several weeks of the same annoyance you've been going thru I realized it was the idler arm going bad. Still don't know why it only started after I pulled the cone & then would only do it intermittently, but I guess I was doing something to the belt or pulley system every time I got under the hood.

Weird thing was, the belt never slipped or whined, which is typically what happens when the arm is shot. Troubleshooting that issue was 40 hours of my life I never got back.

True, had my fair share of them.
Put my stethoscope in random spots tonight. Water pump, idler arm, power steering pump, alt., all sounded good. But wasn't really cool enough tonight, sound was faint. Morning suppose to be pretty cool so go over things again with the scope.

Seems changing direction of air flow going into duct is only thing that's changing to noise or stopping it altogether, strange to me.

Yeah I took everything apart and looked.
I'm not sure what's missing,I've never seen one before,I ell Google it for a pic.

Got the stethoscope out again this morning. The loudest section of the sound I've llc these the air box, after about 6 inches away from the box it's pretty quiet.
All pulleys, alt, water pump is normal sounds.

There is not anything in the box. Duct has nothing in it,looked in throttle body with my rifle tac light,It's really bright and nothing inside there either.

I'm puzzled.

I'll look it over again but last I checked there is no metal and they have 3 rubber bushings of which were all there. One bushing is for the bolt to fender and the 2 lower bushings on bottom is where the box rests on the lower part of the body. The box itself doesn't rest on the metal just the 2 bushings.

the noise that I think I hear on the recording sounds like air squeezing past a connection, grab that wd40 and start spray'n the connections around the air box, the lid and any connections near by, It's gonna get messy son, so put your big boy goggles on.

my car makes the same noise the reason being MY 04 makes that noise is the valve springs. I have comp cams 268h w/ their upgraded valve springs. The only time ive heard cars do that are springs or valve issues. What i would suggest is going to harbor freight and buying a stethoscope, unless you have one already, and touch around the valve covers see if its emanating from there. If all else fails punch it.

You guys are the "Doctors of Diagnosis"! I've pushed stethoscopes on numerous forums, and the response suggested I'm some kind of a$$hole. Bravo to you guys for seeing the value in pinpointing location of noise production, instead of tearing into perfectly operating gear! imp

I'm not real familiar with the sn95 models[/B] but I would say to take the air box out and see if there at some rubber mounts missing or damaged, look for shiny metal like something is rubbing
Small wonder you've confounded me regarding this '94 GT I bought!

Yes I have a stethoscope and no the valve covers are perfect quiet.I have put that scope on about anything I can under the hood and the only area thats loud is around the air box and since this seems to be an air flow issue the next part here seems like it could be the culprit......

I have been doing some research about my issue and this is what I have come across on several forums just doing a google search:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/l...ough-fog-horn-sound-coming-intake-help-2.html

Clearly that link is for Ford trucks but the symptoms are the same. Later I will clean the IAC and then have to wait for a cool morning to try it to see if that fixed it, but being Texas weather who knows when that will be. Tomorrow is suppose to be *50 out so we will see. I havent really done much hands on with it last couple days, been warm mornings.
