97 Gt Exhaust Options/ideas?

My 97 GT convertible is almost bone stock, except for a nice, 2.5" stainless exhaust system from the manifold back. I bought it this way and the stainless system gives it a slightly-nicer-than-stock exhaust note, but I'm wanting to upgrade to headers and a custom exhaust such as Magnaflow or Flowmaster. Borda systems are interesting, but I don't want this thing to scream. Years ago, I owned an 88 GT with headers and Flowmaster exhaust. I know the 4.6L won't approach the sweet, unmatched sound of the 302, but I'm looking for feedback on what works and sounds best on the 4.6L motor.

While i can appreciate the sound of the fox bodies, my friend and his wife have 2 with full exhaust, this here's modular country. 4.6 have a similar but still distinct sound from the small block ford. I think it's better.

You should hit up YouTube. There's countless videos of countless exhaust combinations. takes some time to get your ear dialed in to the differences. Once you do you'll find what you like.

Asking what combo is the best on these or any forums is like asking what beer is best. Ask it five times, get five different answers.

Long tubes, off road H with Mac mufflers. Best sounding hands down if you want that "old school" rumble. Add cats to quiet down if needed.

Spintech sounds amazing on a mod motor as well with the above setup.

If your car is a vert you might have some trouble with long tubes as the k member is bigger on the vert than the coupe i may be wrong I know this cause it happened to me a few years ago on my 98. other than that if you're gonna do a PI swap id save it for last so you can do it all together.

Other than that UPR makes a good catless mid- pipe that i have used and i loved it. cheap and easy to throw on. if you want to be cheap get some Flowmaster super 10s and get them welded in. you do not need 3in exhaust so dont go crazy.

I feel that the benefit of most kits is that you dont have those :poo:ty bends where as a muffler shop will bend the tubing but the diameter gets smaller at the bend.

either way flowmaster is a good choice all the time.
