next i moved onto scuffing up the panels and stripping trims and such
IMG_1094.JPG
the hatch weighed a ton i definitely underestimated that

IMG_1097.JPG
Check out all the nastiness in the hatch valley!!
IMG_1098.JPG
pulled the bumper cover
IMG_1101.JPG
the layers of paint were completely breaking down in spots and literally popped with a putty knife
IMG_1107.JPG
started filling in the stone chips on the hood
IMG_1188.JPG
decided to grab a fender and do a test panel for the new ss urethane i picked up and see what my colour scheme was gonna end up looking like.

IMG_1269.JPG
I think the car was originally jalapeno red and i wanted to pull it back closer to its former glory

My first thought on the dry fit was, where is my magic wand ?!

Damn it, youre making me want to do a single stage on the top half of my car. My hood was repainted and doesnt match, so its been on my mind to give it a fresh coat.
i'm pretty happy with the results, i'm still working on my flow with my gravity feed hvlp gun and such and i don't have a booth yet, I figured that 300$ for a gallon of material would let me shoot the whole car and lay down enough mil to have some cut and buff capability..which i hadn't ever done before either... anyway it laid down nice:nice:
i would say go for it! just think how sweet it'll look.:D

believe it or not, that car looks fairly all there.. nice starti ng point and some decent parts on it
Regarding the engine bay. did you put down some POR15 or at least use some primer and remove the old paint and rust? At a minimum I would use rattle can rust converter and preferealy POR15 all in the inner fender. firewall, door jambs, cowl, radiator support etc, while you have the car blown apart. I'd also address the damaged frame rails....

How do the front and rear torque boxes look?

yeah it is a 95% complete project i would say. As far as the engine bay goes, no i didn't do a proper prep on it:eek:, knowing it was going to need more major work later i basically just scraped it down roughed it up with 180 everywhere and wiped it down, and then hit it with rustoleum
 I figured i would clean it up to start, and make sure it ran good and learn what to look for while focusing on the rest of the body and the interior. My revised plan since then is to eventually pull the motor and do it all up right, mostly due to the soft driver front tq box i just found recently, which i suspect will need the cut out, replace the steel k member sleeves inside and weld up... the rears looked good to me but i'm going to look more carefully at them and maybe reinforce them since i'm learning to weld now in the interim.

Next i started pulling the interior out of the way and into storage found a small hole in the pass footwell and the driver front pan needs replacing aswell but i decided to continue prepping the exterior first
IMG_1279.JPG
Took 180 to the whole shell...
IMG_1281.JPG
And then pulled the doors...
IMG_1291.JPG
Guess some water had been running down the a pillar for a while and seized up the hinge bolts! sheared the head off 1 had to drill and tap that.
IMG_1290.JPG

Doors were pretty soft on the bottom seams , damn salt they use up here wrecks everything i swear man
IMG_1294.JPG
IMG_1296.JPG
IMG_1297.JPG
Started skimming in a few low spots ...
IMG_1299.JPG
A few pin holes in the hatch valley needed addressing... started grinding down and throwing down a little epoxy in trouble spots thought i'd show the holes before filling... and buzzing down the hood.

Here's a link that shows what I'm talking about:

Scroll down from there.
Yea I am definitely planning to go there, actually Scotts thread was one of the ones that made me realize!
unfortunately lol when i picked her up i knew nothing of that trouble area, but now i'm startin' to get it,

I think i'm kinda doin' this car in reverse a little bit, which'll mean redoing things i could've done first, but at the expense of driving it while i save up the coin its the right way for me so far,
i plan a long and illustrious journey with this fox, and providing i never have to sell it, it's just my canvas to learn car building and i'm learning a ton!:nice:

You know what man, not everyone can do the full on expensive rebuild. There is nothing wrong what you are doing. If it makes you happy, then good for you brother. Now if you are bondoing up any rust holes (and Im not trying to imply you are), then just be honest with a future buyer if you decide to sell later.
