Paint and Body 1962 Impala - Bodywork

  • Sponsors (?)

Dave, I've been away for a little while, so I had to catch up with what you've been doing lately. Man, you have been busy !!! Lots of hard work and progress too, wish I could claim just one of those. I wish we lived closer, I'd probably aggravate the hell out of you though. Looking forward to more updates, take care brother.

It's good to hear from you. I sure don't feel busy!

Work is slowly creeping back into a profitable stage for me. That has been the biggest hold up.

I'm trying to get back to the SY so I can see the drivetrain I'll be getting for my blue car. The owner has been on vacation though.

Oh well, there will be lots of activity from me soon.

How are things for you? Didn't you get a new fox after the wreck?

Been doing good , bought a 87 coupe roller as a donor to fix my son's car. I don't have any experience doing a repair like this, so I'll have to get some help to pull this off. Problem is, funds are being stretched and I just don't have any extra right now. Kids are expensive, LOL

Let me know if I can be of any help my friend, I'm always glad to help out. Besides, I want to see another fox with those S550 seats again...

Back to the Impala.

I evened out the gaps between the left door and quarter this weekend. I had to reshape the only bodywork that TG did on the quarter to make the lines of the upper front quarter match the door.

He said he had done this already, but not so much. He never even put the latch back in the door, kind of tough to maintain a straight line when the door can move around.

Anyhow, the gap is now perfect to the door and that nasty upper 1/4 carries the lines across from the door. It took me close to five hours to fix this little part to my satisfaction.

I primered the whole quarter and jambs.

I still have to do the jambs on the right quarter and do the bodywork on the right fender. I should have that done by Saturday.

Then!!!! I'll finally start doing what I was hired to do. Prepping for paint and painting.

I have given up on this being done exactly as I think it should be done. At least it was stripped completely and the bodywork is done properly (properly for a job that won't get the new panels it should get).

Just do the body work to your satisfaction and be done with it. Oh, wait, you are already doing that!
Seriously, thats the only way your skills will shine like they should.
We all know it's what's underneath that makes a great paint job all that much easier.

Sooo Dave... didya finally tell Tg 'Take the Impala and shove it!' ?
Lol, not really. I just stopped working on it and I don't say anything at all to him about it.

I've got some obvious reasons for needing extra money real soon here with Scuby, so I may bring it up in a couple weeks.

I will probably still paint it.

Guess what? TG finished the bodywork!

I’m painting this with the parts off. I’m starting with the hood and decklid.

I’ve got the hood blocked and ready to shoot, now onto the decklid. It’ll take me a couple hours to block the decklid.

You’ll see red parts today though. I need to finish the whole car this weekend.
