Progress Thread HeHateMe gets bent

Guess you haven’t seen how fast they are going on a split mono leaf / cal trac setup. Ron Rhodes has been 1.06 60foot .

Look up Lyle Barnett - tooth jerker
Guess you could left all of that crotchedy shock tower, rear steer stock sht up front too, if other people were going fast with 60 year old front suspension sht.

But you didnt...

The only reason these guys are changing the front ends of those cars are to accept a block larger than a 289.and to give them options for newer front end tech.
( Clearly, not your situation)
So,..if not to take advantage of the adjustability, and the potential for future changes, why do all of that up front, when you dont need the space, and on the same page, plan for a non adjustable leaf spring/mini tub, when its so much easier to just cut it away, and put a big assed tire in a Jegster backhalf suspended by a set of coil overs and held in place with a pair of ladder bars?

Let me count the ways.

#1 I have to keep you coming back and driving my post count up.
#2 I'm doing the front in case the 2.3 is not the end all do all powerplant. Plus I already had a lot of SN95 front parts and bigger brakes will be nice. The steering box and all the linkage on this car were USED UP. So it all had to be replaced and this is really about as cheap as replacing all of it, but a huge improvement.
#3 Leaf springs work. A mini tub is pretty much just labor. The filler piece will be scraps from work. I don't have to cut the entire trunk out. A 600 hp 2.3 (i'm hoping for 450-500) is probably leaving on the stall at <200 lb ft of torque, so funny car slicks are stupid looking and over kill. If I want to do a rear clip, it is always doable later.

Nothing like doing stuff over, and over, and....
Says the voice of experience! I keep saying I want to be like you when I grow up.

After the HeHateMe Falcon, I want to make this:

Happy Thanksgiving you filthy animals!

Nothing to see here. Out of town last weekend, leaving tomorrow, be back Sunday. At some point the Falcon will be losing part of the shock towers and the K member will get fitted. It just may be over Christmas (we are off 2 weeks).

I am looking for a set of wheels. Once I get the K Member in, I can get it back on the ground. They need to fit SN95 brakes. When I didn't have a car, I saw ALL manner of wheels at bargain prices. Now, for the life of me, I can't find anything decent. Looking for something suitable for drag racing. Rears in the 15x8 - 15x10 range (10 may be a stretch) and 15 x 4 or 17 x4 up front, as long as it clears the brakes.

I found these...the price is right...$300 for all 4 plus the 2 front runners, but I'm not sure these are worthy of HeHateMe. Or vice versa. I'd almost want to run steel wheels with a dog dish.

In my opinion, dog hubcaps are cool. I do not think you can go wrong with them other than the steel wheels will be heavier than aluminum. I have 68 dog dish hubcaps on my 67 coupe. I will never get rid of them.

At $300 for the set I'd say jump on them. I'm sure you'd be able to sell them easy enough and not lose any money over it.

Sorta my thoughts. At first I thought those don't really go with it, but now looking...round headlights, round tailights, bubble wheels....it's a match made in Hell. But like you said the price is right, and they seem close enough...maybe a 2 hour drive. Of course now that I am interested, they will be gone. FMR...it's a 4 hour drive.

So, today, I had some time to go out and work on HeHateMe. I need to slice and dice the shock towers, but I needed to get the firewall braces off first. They were spot welded and blob welded in place. I'm guessing it's factory, but on the passenger side, there's a hole torched thru where they blobbed some weld on.
I will admit when I pull some dumassedry. I started drilling the spot welds at the firewall from the top....then realized it's 3 layers thick....they are spot welded on the bottom. Being fat and lazy, I didn't really feel like laying down or shoe horning my fat ass under there to center punch and use the spot weld cutters. So I just grabbed both braces when the were free of the shock towers and bent them to the sky. Easy Peasy. Drilled out the spot welded and then bent the firewall lip back in place. I really would love just to leave the paint as is, but I had to grind a lot of it off. I got some cheap ass paint stripper disks from Amazon and they work great. Light touch, they strip paint and rust. Heavy touch, they take off metal like a flap wheel.

Once that was done, I realized the surgery of the shock tower would be a several hour project needing some accuracy and patience. So I decided to put the caster/camber plates on. I made a template out of cardboard and laid it out. I don't think they are exactly symmetrical side to side, but they are within an 1/8th". Just another reason HeHateMe.

Then new parts were removed from their boxes and installed. Next need to get the shock towers out, the k member mocked up, the control arms on and set the wheelbase. Need to find some tires and wheels....maybe the bubbles will be the choice, but that's an 7-8 hour round trip for me...somewhere in NE Alabama. I don't have the free time over the next few weekends. Next up, cut the steering shaft and remove the box.
