When I started this project, I wanted to keep it completely original, including all colors. I worked for a few months collecting all the needed items in Canyon Red, the interior color of this 1986, however not very many of the new restoration parts and materials were close the original color. It's not that they do not try, it's just a hard color to match. Sourcing materials needed to color match a 28 year old car, not easy, and not red.
I decided to drop that plan and go with the interior year color correct 'Grey'. I sourced all the correct parts I could and then color matched the grey with some '
One Hit Wonder' paint.
I use this paint with our Hyrodgraphics that we do and it is designed to stick to anything, period. Old plastic, sure! We had them make us up a single stage batch, even with some shine reducer, to give us the sheen we were after. Turned out great and I really can't even scratch this stuff off, forget the PPG dye paints!
Started with...
So far....
New dash pad from Late Model painted with OHW (was black)
Center Console Painted with OHW (was red)
Dash recolored inside car
- no fun to remove 86 dash
- removed all cluster, trim, radio, vents, etc
Looking good I think!
