    sometimes the shifter is "sloppy" and won't engage the neutral safety switch in P. you can replace the worn bushings(there are 2) to tighten up the shifter-pretty easy to do

    Check that battery has full voltage and that there is no corrosion on the terminals. Play with the shifter(automatic?) in P and N to see if the neutral safety switch might be the culprit.
