no, thats not really odd at all, its actually common at the begining of a gasket failure.

honestly i cant tell by that picture if you do or if you dont....but try to see where the lower radiator hose goes to. if its to the same thing that the oil filter screws into, then there is a gasket behind that that is supposed to keep the oil and coolant apart...it may have failed.

not really known for cracking, but it certainly wouldnt be the first time ive seen it happen. are you sure the heads were torqued down the way they were supposed to be, in sequence? there really isnt anyother cause i can think of aside from the head gaskets.
