How much compression can be run on premium pump fuel

If you have a builder, you should get his/her advice. As others have mentioned, CAM selection and many other aspects of hte build can have a say in what gas should be used.

67 Gt Fastback S Code Or Shelby Clone

IMO clones are way overdone. 390 GT Fastbacks are pretty amazing cars. DO you have the Marti for your car?

    Former Director Of The Nmca

You should run a Marti report on the car. I don't think there were any factory line Mach1 convertibles. According to my info, there was 32 "J" 429CJ convertibles made in 71. Some portion of those are 4 speed. This info is from Marti.

    Can a 429 go in a 69 M-code Mustang?

You can fit a 429, not a boss 429, but a 429 or 460 will fit. Regarding the staggered shocks in the rear; that's one way to improve traction. There are lots of other ways. Don't let one persons opinion on traction and motor weight be the deciding factor.

Full Roller Suspension Vs Coil Overs

The rubber bushed perch in "new" form also has binding because of what it is and the fact it can't rotate w/the shock and spring travel. So, I suspect in many driving situations the ride is not rougher with a roller perch. One consideration to this contradictory situation (one would think rubber...

Full Roller Suspension Vs Coil Overs

The coil over systems I've seen do not keep the spring perch, but the rod end of the coil over shock acts like a spherical bearing. People that have used OpenTrackers or SoT's roller spring perches do not indicate the ride is harsher than with standard rubber bushed perches. some indicate the...

FE Build Question On Intake Swap

The FE intake is heavy, the one you are looking at is between 70-80 lb bare. Survival Motorsport owner Barry Robotnick wrote a book and in the book he goes through the steps to properly install an FE intake. Jay Brown fepower.net forum owner also wrote a book on FE intakes he dyno tested on a...

Drivetrain Fti Street Brawler Torque Converters

There are some well respected transmission shops like Broader Performance that should be able to offer advice without breaking the bank or budget.

    17 Or 18 Inch Wheels

Don't forget the brick fireplace, chimney and waterbeds. For those of us old enough to remember the brief period in the early 70's when Hot Rod did a number of write-ups on custom vans. Out of the grey area is a good descriptor for an 18" wheel. It's black or white at that size in terms of...

FE Build 428 Cj Heads On A 390 Block

A long time ago, I did this. Make sure the exhaust ports fit the headers or exhaust manifolds you use. Also, I used the existing 390 rocker arms on the 428 heads and the pushrods ended up being the wrong size. Can't remember what combination caused this.

    Engine What Cam? 289

No the gear won't help the engine run over 4200, for a 289, I'd put more gear in a rear end, that's all. It should not effect gas mileage that much.

    Engine What Cam? 289

I think the rear end gears need a little more go-go, 3.5 or a little lower. Also, sounds like a valve train issues if it won't rev over 4200. Have you checked the valve spring requirements and made sure they are up to the task? Also, could the pushrods be bumping or rubbing anything? Wiped lobe...

    Suspension Wallow Blues

If you look at the Fays2, you'll see it's adjustable. As far as body roll, someone else responded to that. These devices were probably developed for leaf spring cars.

    Suspension Wallow Blues

The Watts allows you to adjust the roll center and and since the roll center and lateral motion are now fully controlled you don't need a sway bar in the rear, nor do you need high spring rates and heavy duty shocks to get the car to handle well on the street. I'd use a rear sway bar as a last...

    Suspension Wallow Blues

Not sure why this could/would be true. The rear axle is heavy, it's unsprung, and it's not geometrically constrained to minimize movement laterally or to rotate around a specific location. Adding a sway bar does not solve this problem. If the rear springs are old and the rear has more lateral...

    Interesting Resto Delemma

Is there any chance you have a build sheet. I think the typical locations are under the dash wired to the harness by the steering tube, under the carpet or front drivers seat or in a door panel. Other guys will be able to more accurately describe the locations. You can't get a Marti report...
