    cam choice

I'm running a stock HO cam with 1.7's. It's a great combo for something you don't want to run over 5000rpm. Excellent throttle response.

    is it stupid???

ARP bolts will last through 100 engine rebuilds or more probably. This is not a place to skimp on the 40 bucks. I have reused head bolts before, and I will never do so again. I torqued a set of stock heads down once, reusing the factory head bolts (not even torque to yield ones), and 2 of...

    355s vs. 373s

:bs:3.55's do a lot over the stock gears. 3.73's are only a little bit different than 3.55's. Basic math. 2.73 to 3.55 = approx 30% change 2.73 to 3.73 = approx 36% change 3.55 to 3.73 = approx 5% change In my opinion, with how stock your car is, I would use 3.55's. If you plan on...

    .030 over bore question

Complete waste of time. The purpose of boring is to make your cylinders "fresh". Only do it if the walls have wear.

    Edelbrock vs Holley

I have never had any problems with edelbrocks on hard braking or hard cornering. I would triple check your float level too. I can say my 750 edelbrock is awesome on my 347. Runs and drives almost like EFI, and is scary when you step on it. I don't know why so many people have problems with...

Pics of the heads that just came in for the stroker. *56k no way!*

I like my 347. I even have one of the "old" style stroker kits where the piston pin intersects the oil rings. It hasn't puffed any blue smoke at all, with about 400 miles on it, still breaking it in. There was some smoke on initial startup, but that's normal. Did I mention it rips to...

    289???in a fox

I think it would be stupid to put a 289 in a fox. Why doesn't he use his original 302? converting that thing to a roller is going to be expensive. IMO there is zero advantage of a 289 over a 302. These other guys are giving you the right responses as well.

Windsor JR/SR OR TWISTED WEDGES?? HEAD GUYS COME IN

the twisted wedges flow more and are a much better head IMO. I have the windsor jr's and the twisted wedges, the twisted wedges are way better.

    Bad piston wrist pin

It will if it has anything to do with the piston, but that is the problem. You wouldn't isolate it between the pin or the skirt. Can you describe more about how loud it is under different loads or different rpms?

    new motor smokes...

could still be valve guides/seals for that one cylinder.

    Bad piston wrist pin

More likely a piston skirt. It will sound like the piston is slopping around in the cylinder, and more like a mid-pitch knock instead of a higher pitch tick like a lifter or a lower pitch knocking like loose main bearings. It will also be noticeably different under different loads.

Engine pulled today, color of exhaust valve?

I'm going to have to agree that it's pretty normal. If anything it was running a little lean. It may also have something to do with your increase in initial timing and maybe even because you were running headers.

    Check Oil Light

I took mine out because it was leaking through the electrical wires. Most of the time it is off, but sometimes it comes on... really kind of puzzling, lol.

shave heads or buy flat top pistons?

definitely buy new pistons. buy some flat tops that come up level with the deck block and have 2 valve reliefs. IMO, don't start shaving heads and risk causing problems. Besides, if you get pistons, you're putting money towards an upgrade instead of blowing it away on a set of stock heads...

    Carb size

Your carb is definitely too small. 750 it! Junk the online calculators. A stock 302 with no mods and 200hp will show you 600cfm, while a 450hp monster 302 will show like 650, it's ridiculous.

Edelbrock 2121 intake manifold missing rear water ports?

You don't need the rear water ports and it's perfectly fine to block them off. Intakes only ever have the rear crossover if you want more places to put gauges or temp switches into the coolant flow. Most aftermarket intakes do not have them, in fact very few do have the rear water crossover...

Opinions on HEI on 68 302

It's a good ignition system and definitely works great. Only problem is bulkiness, so make sure you take that into account. Might need a certain air cleaner or space it up pretty high. Also, it won't work with some intakes.

Advice on purchasing a used motor?

personally, I would not buy a used engine unless I was planning to rebuild it, or I was able to hear the engine run.

    Balancing my 347

you already know you have 50 oz and you are having vibrations. For sure you need to order up the 28oz stuff. As far as I know, they only make 50oz setups if you request it, even then they don't recommend it.

Gasket sealer on intake gasket with Print-o-Seal?

it's not necessary, definitely not around the intake ports. I put some around the coolant ports for good measure. I also use the bead of RTV in the front and back of the intake, works great.
