    Ignition lock

I have a 2004 Mustang that I need to remove the ignition lock from the steering column so I can take it to a locksmith and get a key cut for it. I removed the air bag and steering wheel, but ran across a black plastic disc that covers the ignition lock. Does anyone know how to remove this disc...

    I hit a snag

I use a drill and drill out the tumblers. After that you can use a screwdriver to turn the switch. Be careful not to drill too deep.

    Brake Line Flaring

Are you using stainless brake tubing? Stainless works best with a single flare. Regular steel tubing needs a double flare. I have a quality flaring tool and it makes perfect flares.

    fuel efficient 289?

I guess I'm just a non believer. Back in the day, (I'm 66 yrs old) The boys with the mustangs were getting 18/22. Nobody was getting 28. I would have to see that one for myself. My 351W and T5 gets about 18 on a good day, and I keep my foot out of it. Any horseplay and I'm down to 14 or so. I...

    auto shifter doesn't line up

shifter I had the same problem with my 65 Mustang, so I fabricated a short extension and bolted it to my floor shift lever. This extended the throw so that everything lined up. Might not be the "correct" way, but it got me on the road. That was 10 years ago. I may get around to fixing it the...

    New guy with 289 questions

You need to wake up. If you are running a flat tappet camshaft, and are not worried about it, you are facing eventual camshaft failure unless you keep your zinc levels above 1000 ppm. Some time ago the Fed (EPA) passed legislation decreeing that catalytic converters had to last 100,000 miles...

    New guy with 289 questions

I say scrap the 289 and buy a 302 roller motor from the junk yard or even eBay and start from there. You get a stronger block, and roller lifters so you don't have to deal with adding Zinc to the oil like you have to do for flat tappet cams. The following link will take you to eBay for a turn...

    setting your own alignment

I have a similar magnetic gauge, and it attaches to the hub after you remove the wheel bearing dust cap. I was lucky and bought a pair of swivel plates and magnetic caster/camber gauge off eBay for 250.00. Beats the heck out of paying somebody a lot of money to misalign your front end.

    Mufflers

I have Super 40 Flowmasters on my 65 Fastback with 2 1/2 H pipe, and I love the sound. I have driven the car from Pennsylvania to Utah to California and have no problems with drone.

Modern Rims On Our Old Classic - No Go

Late model wheels on a classic I bought a set of these to put on my 65 fastback bacause they reminded me of the 65 Shelby GT 350 wheels. I used 1 1/4" spacers and they fit perfectly. Are they metric? Yes and no. All Ford did was convert the standard Ford 4.5" bolt circle to metric numbers so...

Can I Power a Tailight w/9 Volt Battery?

It will light up, but don't expect the battery to last more then about 30 minutes. A better setup might be a LED from Radio Shack.

Does it make sense to use HIPO headers?

I didn't say the engine would run hotter, I meant there would be more heat in the engine compartment due to the increase in surface area of the headers vice the manifolds. Unless the insulation on your firewall and front floors is really good, there will be more heat coming through the firewall...

Does it make sense to use HIPO headers?

Exhaust Go with the cast iron manifolds. Put em on and forget em. No issues with exhaust leaks. Less noise and heat in the engine compartment.

Harmonics? Laymen's terms: The fan would howl like a siren if the blades were spaced evenly.

    Leaky drum rear brakes

That 5th hole is there to allow any leaking oil to drain out of the back side of the backing plate instead of onto the brake shoes. I definitely would NOT plug that hole. I did some resarch tonight to see if I could find some useful info for your problem. At the end of this post you will find a...

    RTV needed?

Leaking housing The reason most thermostat housings leak is because they have been overtorqued and the mounting ears are bent down. If you set the housing down on a flat surface you can see a gap under it (the housing). To correct this, I clamp the housing in a vise and file the surface flat...
