Just getting back to building my 68 Fastback...Thread Here Reading everything I can... Deciding, very reluctantly, to pop the 163 welds on the cowl to check (and repair? replace?) the tray underneath The I saw this <Click here for Link if needed>: A cowl panel without the grill. Gotta admit -...

POR15 does piss me off. But that was my own stupidity - I knew it was iffy and POR15 even says not to use it on bare metal. No way I am leaving a speck of rust on the car so....Zero use for POR15. -CONFIRMED that stuff is NOT for use on cars - just use on where you keep your rusty stuff. Oh, I...

Last few pics and list of what is next... Cool pic in process... Quarter panels coming off - that last bit near the vent is less fun as it is tacked on three sides. Car as it has been for last few years .... maybe 10???? yikes: Oh yeah - forgot - I did NOT weld in the Shelby roll-bar...I...

Update to Current #3 Re-skinned both doors. Bought a re-pop door and was completely dissatisfied with the thinner material build for a door. Sooo...that ended up being a VERY expensive donor piece to replace the front bottom corner of the original door.. Updated clutch assembly with bearings...

Progress Thread 68 Fastback Build Thread=> Rebuild to Restomod

Sounds Nice Right? Unscheduled departures ...to reality: Rust and pre-1979 bondo repair in Quarters and trunk and Fender... welll..... roof was good. Storage of vehicle created a 'rainforest environment' in the interior. Updates to modern and safety were required. Apparently stopped driving in...

Need Help> 68fb Installing Quarters And Tail Panel

I did not change the lower window panel but it does flex and move, especially since I left the trunk lid on so I could check alignment periodically. Moving the trunk lid moves the panel some. Good to know you see the same...so you are thinking maybe a Dynacorn issue? ...need to figure out a...

Need Help> 68fb Installing Quarters And Tail Panel

Wow. I wish I had read your post about the HF Spot welder before. It took two solid days of aligning, welding and grinding but I got everything done. A 100 little things to do but the main part is done. Only one issue, it looks like the panel below the window slipped a little...gotta figure out...

    Welders

I have a Hobart 125 a friend gave me...he couldn't get it to work right. 110vac. I too had to threaten to drag it behind my truck then figured out the polarity was reversed. I REALLY like the unit for welding sheet metal. Parts are readily available...I would recommend if your interest is mainly...

Need Help> 68fb Installing Quarters And Tail Panel

To spread the trunk I ended up notching a 2X4 on one end and cutting an angle on the other. Placed the notch on one side of the trunk while working the angled end as far down as I could onto the other side (at the tail pan). I then cut another flat just beyond where I could work the 2X4 down and...

Need Help> 68fb Installing Quarters And Tail Panel

figured it out!!! The floor pans were not level. checking to the ground, dead on. Started welding & the lid fits...welded the top part below the window and then forced the quarters apart at the back. The lid gap narrows as it comes back on both sides but the fiberglass lid should be easy to...

Need Help> 68fb Installing Quarters And Tail Panel

I have: 1. Levelled the car - no improvement. 2. Pounded the inner fenderwell out of the way (Rolled it). - 1/4" improvement. The drivers side is now at 13 1/2" to the top of the quarter panel (without the corner thing in), the Passenger side is 13 3/4". Ironic this thread started with the...
