Steering pump whine - how to quiet

G'day gents! Recently replaced a quiet original (leaking) steering pump with a "remanufactured" unit and it is making a lot more noise than the old one ever did. System is full of fresh type-F and is bled, with all 3 lines new as well. I remember somewhere reading how people were able to...

    Need Opinions

All things considered, if your current fox isn't strong enough for you, buy a slightly used/heavily depreciated new Mustang that you want and sell your fox for what you can get (or keep it if you can for posterity since they aren't worth much). This way, you'll have a fresh car to play with and...

    old fuel

I wouldn't worry about it all. Pour in a double dose of fuel injector cleaner and fill it up right after that with fresh gas and rock on. Burn up that tank and fill up again. After a couple of fresh tanks, for maximum effect (if you want to be "Johnny-on-the-spot") change the fuel filter...

Front Suspension Issue - Clunking and Cupping

On my 91 GT the original ball joints are non-greasable and have visual wear indicators that protrude downwards towards the ground. These are checked with the car sitting unsupported on the ground. The balljoints come as part of the entire control arm, and must be replaced as a unit.

    a good eye needed please

I agree that that seems to be the case.

    5.0 theoretical top speed?

My stock 91 GT has 2.73s and a stick. In 5th at 60 MPH my rpms are exactly 1500, and at 120 MPH they are 3000. The engine's torque peaks at 300 ft. lbs. at 3200. I once tried to see how fast the car would actually go. I got it up to 230 km/h (144 MPH) (Canadian speedo), at which point...

    AH! I LOVE MY FOX

I'm in love with my 91 GT - total satisfaction, especially for the money.

    a good eye needed please

I've seen that look before and it was on a car where the front clip was changed due to a minor accident. The rest of it looks straight with good fender alignment. If it is as it seems, I wouldn't dismiss the car over it - maybe use it as a bargaining lever on price.

    Question re brake shoe springs

I have a 1991 Mustang GT and am servicing the rear 9 inch stock drum brakes. My question is, which of the two brake shoe springs goes where? A local mechanic told me the general rule is that the green spring goes on the primary shoe, or if both springs are the same colour, then the lighter...

went to fill t5 like a retard plz help

I fill my T5 by using an appropriately sized clear plastic tube, inserting one into the tranny and routing the other up into the engine bay, where an assistant pours the fluid into a funnel into the tube, and I stay under the car to make sure all is well. I could do it on my own, 'cause the...

    Diff housting vibration dampener

Thanks a lot for the info - question answered. :) I have no plans to mess with that stock dampener. With my 2.73s I got my car up to 220 kph (about 138 mph) once and it had no problems - ran quite smooth and really held the road well.

    Canadian "Cobra" - What's in a name?

Hey, I've been stuck in the house getting over a nasty case of bronchitis. Time on my hands... I've started a few threads, but that's about all I got to say for now - I'm all out of bullets. Soon I'll be doing more driving and less typing. :)

    Special equipment - regional differences

To complete the picture, my 91 GT came with a/c, power locks, power windows, power mirrors, power hatch release, rear defrost, block heater, power lumber seats with the lateral adjustments and the extendable thigh supports, cruise, intermittent wipers, sunroof, 2.73s, daytime running lights, 220...

    Canadian "Cobra" - What's in a name?

In the late 80s and early 90s Ford sold the Mustang GT in Canada as the "Ford Mustang Cobra GT". The two cars are the same, except maybe for the 220 kilometer per hour speedo. In fact, it was not uncommon to see a Canadian GT with a factory sticker on the rear of the hatch, opposite the Ford...

    Diff housting vibration dampener

I have a general question about the vibration dampener that is bolted onto the bottom of my diff housing. It is from the factory and held on by two bolts. Why is it there? I've owned several other types of vehicles with similar rear axle assemblies and none of them had this. I know in...

    Special equipment - regional differences

I'm interested in finding out from everyone about the range of different factory features/equipment/options that were available/mandated/deleted on fox body mustangs in different parts of North America over the years. I read about a guy from Hawaii who said his GT had no rear window defrost...

Avoid hathback rear gate rot out

Here's a tip on how to avoid having your hatch back rear gate rust out on you. Here in Canada, the Ford Fox Body Mustang was known as the Ford "ROT Body RUSTang" and I watched as corrosion claimed all but a few well preserved examples. A problem area was the bottom of the rear gates on...

    Avoid Speedo Cable Damage

Just sharing a bit of info... A couple of years ago I noticed some tranny fluid droplets showing up on my garage floor. Upon investigation I discovered that my speedo cable had been resting against and rubbing on a relatively sharp metal edge under the car. All of this was factory and...

    Yellowing Ford headlights

So what's the deal with Ford and the yellowing headlight syndrome. Ever since plastic headlights have been in use for almost 25 years now I have seen Ford cars suffer with this, including Tempos, Crown Vics, Mustangs, Lincolns etc. etc. Some got really bad. I had this problem on my 1991...

How Common Were Factory Non-A/C Cars?

Up here in Canada, my 91 GT came with 2.73s, rear defrost, a/c, kph speedo, daytime running lights and a BLOCK HEATER. Oh yeah, and the official name for it was "Ford Mustang Cobra GT", even though it's no different than a US GT. I've read conflicting accounts of why this was done by Ford...
