    Difference Between 4V Heads

I did buy the Aviator heads. One is an '03 and the other an '05, based on the casting numbers and the seller's claims. They should be, according to the document above and others, the best revision of all the compatible heads. I also got a 2001 Cobra upper manifold. I heard there was some...

    Difference Between 4V Heads

Anybody? I have a blown-out-plug repair that has failed on my '96 and I pulled the head off yesterday. I'm thinking I may as well replace the heads with the 9-thread ones, but I can't get anyone to tell me what else I need to make the '03-up heads fit the '96.

What to do about an oil pan full of coolant and grime

Now I have the engine at TDC and the last things before the head are the timing chain and exhaust manifold. What needs to be done to disconnect the exhaust manifold? The factory manual procedure is outrageous. Thanks for any insight. Gavin

What to do about an oil pan full of coolant and grime

Thanks for all that info. I guess that's encouraging. The stuff that fell into the pan is the caked grime off the timing cover... although there might be some wood splinters from the water pump where I was wailing away on it with a board and mallet. However, this all fell straight down and I can...

What to do about an oil pan full of coolant and grime

Hahaha thanks Jeremy. I’ll probably try flushing it and scoping it. If that’s not conclusive, I might just do the rest of the project and then have it towed to my mechanic for this last bit. Very annoying, though.

What to do about an oil pan full of coolant and grime

Hi all. I have to fix a blown-out plug hole on my '96 Cobra. I'm in the midst of this epic disassembly and just removed the timing cover. To do that, I had to remove the water pump. Of course, this unleashed a cascade of coolant and grime that went right into my oil pan (not to mention the...

Well, I can't get this timing cover off. Any hints?

Thanks. Clearly I forgot to mention it's a '96, so the bolts don't go through the timing cover. I finally did get it off by whacking it with a regular hammer on the pulley. Now my biggest problem is the pile of grime and coolant that fell right into the oil pan. WTF do people do about that?

Well, I can't get this timing cover off. Any hints?

Hi all. Finally found and removed all the bolts (apparently), but the bottom of the cover doesn't want to come loose. And yes, I removed the four oil-pan bolts. Is it just the gasket at the bottom? Not sure what to pry this with so I don't mar the mating surface. Also, do I have to remove the...

We're really not allowed to clean the throttle body?

Thanks. I cleaned it anyway. I even removed the metal plates to do it. Not worried about it. It’s easy to access if it exhibits problems.

We're really not allowed to clean the throttle body?

I would have without a doubt sprayed this down with cleaner, were it not for the sticker on the throttle body that plainly states: "Do not clean inside throttle body. Special coating on throttle plate and bore." Anybody have details on this? Hard to believe that any damage done to the coating...

Spark Plug Blew Out Of Engine Years Ago, Now...

If I were to switch to the C heads, would I just need to get a 2001 Cobra upper manifold? Or would I still need further adaptation?

Spark Plug Blew Out Of Engine Years Ago, Now...

Thanks. That's the thread where I saw the adapter plate. I don't see a lot of options, unfortunately.

Spark Plug Blew Out Of Engine Years Ago, Now...

Thanks. What is the "upgraded" manifold for this application?

Spark Plug Blew Out Of Engine Years Ago, Now...

Thanks. Where are these versions available? The only alternative heads I remember hearing about were from a different car and required the construction of an adapter plate to mount the manifold.

Spark Plug Blew Out Of Engine Years Ago, Now...

Hi Chuck! Nice to hear from you, but sorry for your troubles of course! So... the plug blew out a second time after the Helicoil was installed? I figured that this was imminent on mine too, so I stopped driving it. I am still dismantling my engine. I have the driver's side valve cover, brake...

    Seat-removal fiasco

Fair enough! And come on, everything's a fiasco after a day of wrestling with impossible-to-remove crap that prevents you from even starting the REAL work! See: brake booster vs. strut tower

    Seat-removal fiasco

While I agree, I can't find any way to edit the title.

    break booster removel and reinstall

I have the exact same problem on my '96. There is no way the bolts on this POS will clear the firewall, because the body of the booster hits the strut tower before they're out of the holes.

    Seat-removal fiasco

Thanks for the replies, guys. I didn't realize that the bolts went through my subframe connectors. Everything's fine; not even any notable corrosion. I did have to use a jack to apply upward pressure on the bolts to back them out of the floorpan.

    Seat-removal fiasco

Hi all. I need to remove the driver's seat on my '96 Cobra for multiple reasons. The back bolts were, as I was warned, very hard to turn. However, eventually they started turning more freely.... but with no further result. They haven't backed out of the holes at all, and they didn't seem to...
