Congrats on the new buy! I have a 97 also and the mods I did were in a very thoughtful manner. The first thing is to weld in some good subframe connectors. Especially because you have a convertable it will strengthen the whole body/frame for future add ons if you want.

This has probably been posted before but ... If you have a 97 Cobra and change out the rear gears to a 3:73 you will need to buy a new speedo gear. Part # 53682 at American muscle. 21 tooth RED gear. Happy modding! Jim
