Are these going in a 2010? You might check under the carpet beneath the seat, you could possibly find a mate for the electrical connector.

If it's the second or third bulb I'd make a wild guess it's trouble with the harness.

Do you have a test light or VOM so you can check the bulb socket or unplug the light harness and check it at the connector? If it's just the one bulb giving you trouble I think it would be isolated to the taillight harness. Do you have sequential turn signals?

Tell your friend you broke it and pay for the repair at a shop of his choice. If he wants to fix it buy the parts and his lunch. Either way, if you're not sure how to fix it, don't.

If the bushings were worn out I have doubts an extended warranty would have covered it anyway. For what those cost you could invest in tools and have something to show for $2000.00. However, if you really want a warranty you could probably still buy one.

Do some internet searching on checking ball joints and tie rods. It's not too difficult but basically jack up the front of the car so the tires just leave the ground. It's easier with help but push the tires like you're turning and look for movement in the tie rods. Then stick a long pry bar...
