Fox My 1990 Mustang 5.0 Lx, Notch.

I wouldn't be surprised if your "grinding" issue when off the throttle is your INGNITION SWITCH. These go out on these cars in notorious fashion. I first came across the problem in my 89' Notch with an AOD, my current 91' with an auto as well also had it go out. look at your switch, you should...

    Just Found A 1990 Saleen For $3000

There is a certain satisfaction you will get when you see it all restored and shinny. Mine sat in a rich architect's garage for 20 years so I don't really have any "stories" about its past. My 1982 Suzuki on the other hand, has a rich history with trips all over the country over the last 30...

Thanks! Well, not sure if I am ruining my top, but I use Armorall. I tried to use a Meguiars Cleaner/Protectant but it left white blotchy spots on it, so I went back to Armorall. I know there's a black dye out there to restore the color and mine could use that because its the original top. The...

2 dead batteries and an alternator without an alibi

Thanks for the recommendation David, can't beat going to a shop that has a good rep. Fortunately it was only the alternator. I put a new one in last week and it worked just fine. After the charged battery went in I tested at a low 25 mA of parasitic draw, so no short except the one that was...

2 dead batteries and an alternator without an alibi

Well just got back from the store and the "new" alternator was BAD so they gave me another one and the battery is on a charger. I hope I'm not dealing with a short somewhere else, once the charged battery goes in I'm going to check the parasitic drain, what would be the maximum "normal"...

    Tach,signal lights,blower heater

I am 99.9% sure that it is your ignition switch. I changed mine a few months ago, and have changed them on other 5.0's and your symptoms are exactly the ones I had. I distrust these switches so much that I bought an extra when I bought my current stang, and sure enough several months later my...

2 dead batteries and an alternator without an alibi

Thanks jrichker, I won't be able to try that until a charged battery goes in. I'm not sure it will help in my situation because judging from the fact that it took only 11 hours to drain the new and fully charged battery, I would think that only something more substantial could do it, such as...

    Squeezing out every pony

I have been eyeing the Professional Products Upper/lower intake for a while. It is a clone of Edelbrock, my friend was very happy with it when he used in on his supercharged 90' motor. I couldn't find the 5.0 magazine article on the shootout between this one and several others but I recall it...

2 dead batteries and an alternator without an alibi

So I changed out the stock alternator on my 1991 5.0l, but I didn't disconnect the battery because they were only two connectors (lazy I know). When Autozone checked my old alternator it was working but the bearing was probably going because you could hear/feel the difference versus the new one...

    Weird for me !

I do not like those, the style is kind of outdated and better suited for cars with chrome bumpers or those that are rough around the edges. My last stang (89' notch like yours...) had them because a lightpole moved my front end and everything was misaligned. The only way to keep it shut was with...

Does your 5.0 overheat run hotter with underdrive pulleys??

Thanks David for your offer. The car's got the stock radiator but I've got a e-fan pushing from the front to help out while stopped in traffic. I haven't driven this car here in the summer, so I'm staying away from the UD's for now. Fortunately and unfortunately, the alternator has a lifetime...

Does your 5.0 overheat run hotter with underdrive pulleys??

I think the 3.73 are my best bet since I sometimes travel on the highway long distance, the combo kit from Ford Racing is $260 on american muscle, not bad! As far as install I have never done one, but I'm good at following directions so I think I might give it a shot, I priced it locally and...

Does your 5.0 overheat run hotter with underdrive pulleys??

Thanks guys for the responses, the new alternator is in. I think I'm going to save up for gears instead, I've got an auto trans with 2.73's so those $60 for the pulleys will be better spent toward some nice gears.

Does your 5.0 overheat run hotter with underdrive pulleys??

I thought this too, being that it's a daily driver it sounds like a better idea once a 3-row goes in.

Does your 5.0 overheat run hotter with underdrive pulleys??

Hi guys I've got to change my alternator so I thought now would be a good time to throw on a set of underdrive pulleys. BUT I live in Phoenix where the temp hits well over 100f for 3 months straight. I know the underdrive pulleys slow down the water pump, has this noticeably affected anyone...

Here's mine, just got back onto the foxbody wagon. This one is a 1991 Lx, bought from second owner, who restored what little it needed. Just put a set of Jones Full Bore single chamber mufflers. -Art
