Oh No. Is It Another One From Florida?

I owned it for 10 years, beat it to absolute death, and needed to sink $5000-6000 into it to get it back up to par. Someone flashed $12,000 in cold hard cash at me for it, so off it went.

Electrical Should I See Ground At Fuse #18 Ever?

Seeing ground on the 12v side of fuse 18 when the ignition is off. If I KOEO I see 12v there. Is that normal? I figured I'd see 12v while on, and no volts while off. Not 12v while on and ground while off. Do I have a fault in my ignition switch?

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

Holy crap! Okay, so I just took another stab at it after finding more harnesses. I can actually trace ground back to my fuse block! If I pull fuse 18, which feeds the ignition, I get continuity to ground at the hot side of the fuse. Here's where it gets weird, if I KOEO I get 12v there. Maybe...

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

Oh okay! That's long gone. I can see in the fender there's some vacuum breakout that used to be attached to the EGR inlet on the back of the intake manifold. That ain't hooked up anymore either. Silly 95 emissions crap.

Let's trickle in another pic of bad ass things I used to own. Today we'll go for the Cadillac I think. Are GM's allowed in this forum?

The SINGLE dumbest thing I've done while in the Garage

I knocked my bong off my toolbox with a sail panel once. It hit the floor and shattered. Sad day indeed.

What's the purge canister? That's part of the EGR system right?

Okay, I'm going for the airbag then! It has to go through the firewall somewhere, right?

Hell, does anybody have a pic of an SN95 with the passenger fender off?

I have electrical schematics, but I need to know physically where that wiring goes. Do I pull the fender or the airbag? Ha!

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

Okay, getting even closer, but I need some help. Where does this connector go? I unhooked it, and ground follows it up into the abyss. Am I looking at removing the fender? That's behind the glove box, against the passenger side of the car.

Oh No. Is It Another One From Florida?

I've got a short in the ignition circuit so maybe it's throwing the whole system out of whack. I posted what I found in the thread I started in the tech section, but basically I've got the 12v to the ignition circuit going to ground right now. I can't imagine anything is running right, you know?

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

I get ground here: And here: Gotta be a break in that red/green wire between the two.

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

I got it! Well, almost! Tested for ground at fuse 18 under the dash. Totally got continuity. Unplugged the large breakout connector on the passenger side. No longer getting ground at the ICM, coil, distributor, or RFI cap. Unplugged the connector near the EEC that has the red/green wire in it...

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

Yeah, I did a little digging and it looks like that cap on the side of the coil is the RFI cap. I'm 99% sure I shouldn't see ground on that red/green wire with it disconnected, but before I start digging wires out of harnesses can someone verify that for me? Also should I see ground on that...

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

Wait a minute! Is the "radio interference capacitor" that cap that's attached to the side of the coil? I disconnected that, so in theory, it shouldn't have affected my test if that's it. I think I found the problem.

P.S. - I pulled the EEC to check the pins and there's definitely a chip in the thing. Kinda hanging outta the back with duct tape over it. What the hell!

Engine Codes 511, 212, And 412. Do I Need An Exorcist Or A Mechanic?

Okay, so I did some debugging and here's what I did. Disconnected the harness from the ignition module, distributor, and both at the coil. Checked for continuity to ground on all pins of the ignition module connector. Seeing ground at the red/green wire, which is labeled "RUN" per the diagram...
