Progress Thread Stock 97 Cobra With Grinding Noise In Back When Turning

I had more of a groaning noise on a 92 5.0 I owned. Turned out I had to replace all the rear end clutches - my rear end had been re-built under warranty and they put the one side of the clutches in wrong. Replaced, used the Ford friction modifier, and no more noise. It only happened in a...

    Leaking from Dash. HELP

That's a very simple one and I'm kind of surprised no one responded. Your AC drain pipe is clogged. Get underneath the car, find it and run a small hose up there to clean it out. It should drain fine after that unless you have something really big in the AC drain pan to which the drain pipe...

    rear end question

I'd suggest you try to find one in the junks. Any Mustang SRA has the same internal components as the Cobra's. Did you break your rear cover, too? If so, you can get an aftermarket one from LPW. I think the stock '99 has 3.23 gears like my '01. Exactly what did you break in there? Can you...

    01 COBRA STARTING PROBLEM

This may not be the correct fuel pump for this car, unless you've modified it to return style. Our '01's use a fuel pump that uses variable current to spin it to the desired need as ours is a returnless system. The bbk 255's are supposed to turn at a constant rpm with return systems. That...

1st oil change on my new 2001 Cobra. Oil questions.

You may have an afermarket oil pan but my stocker has always taken 7 qts to the fill line. I have always used a good synthetic oil. Do keep an eye on the oil level as these motors will spin a bearing in a heartbeat if you get low. The heads keep a lot of oil up there with all those...

is 03/04 cobra block the same as 99

No - 03/04 is cast iron while the 99 is aluminum teksid. But, yes, it should bolt up. You will have to use your timing cover, though. It's quite a bit heavier than the 99, too. If you are thinking of a short block, the pistons on the 03/04 are lower compression, although rods and pistions...

97' Cobra Rear Axle Shaft Removal

I knocked mine out with a piece of wood and a hammer. Getting them out is easy; getting them back in is a real PITA. I used a hose clamp after I clamped it down in a vise. Then, cut the hose clamp off and pulled the pieces out. You did take the set screw out and take the large shaft out from...

    99 Cobra AC Problems

First, there is, or should be, a label on the radiator area that states the amount of refrigerant to use. Second, I think you may have over-charged it. Did you check the pressures with a manifold gauge? My '01 calls for 32 oz of refrigerant TOTAL. Did you have any refrigerant in it to begin...

    NEW 2001 COBRA!!

Looks like a very clean car. I thought mine was pretty low miles with only 58,700. They are fun to drive, huh?

    erratic cruise control

Another vehicle we owned, the cruise control would work for about two minutes then shut down. As it was brand new, the control module was the culprit and was replaced. Good luck.

    Best Clutch choice?

Go with the '03 terminator clutch setup; it's not that expensive. Click over to New Edge Cobras - SVTPerformance and look for the sticky for 10% off on OEM Ford parts. Steve @ Tousley Ford will set you up; he is a good guy.

Nasty Rear End vibration in 03 Cobra, no one can help me!!!

Since one set of wheels and tires ride fine and the other set does not, you might check that the wheels and/or tires are out of round - I have personally seen this. To check, put the back end up on jackstands. Using a separate jackstand, put a pointed object, like a pen, on the jackstand right...

    Need a rebuilt transmission

That should be a t-45. Might try the junks; they used them in the GT's too. Try to find a low-miler. Other than that, rebuilts run right around $1,000. Try D&D, ProMotion. Or, you might try Hanlon Motorsports in PA; if you ship if to him, he can rebuild it for you. His prices might be...

    U Joints

Try rockauto.com - they have both Precision and ACDeclo in greaseable and non-greasable versions. Yes, you have different part #'s than those listed for my '01. Good luck.......

96 cobra front brake pad hardware

My guess is that you are missing the anti-rattle clips that sit on either side of the brake pads. The factory ones have rubber inserts to help dampen sound, too. They can be purchased at most auto parts places but will not have the rubber inserts. Hope this helps.

96 Cobra not blowing air through vents

Needs to be an airtight connection. You might use a piece of very small diameter rubber tubing to connect them. Or, you might use a shrinkwrap tube. You might also find a specialty vacuum type connector at an auto parts - I think I've seen those before at Vatozone or Advance Auto. Make...

My 99 cobra hops VIOLENTLY even with IRS braces and bushings

When you say IRS bushings, do you mean the front/rear IRS bushings or the differential bushings? The reason I ask, is that I had to drop my pumpkin this summer to fix a leak and replaced the IRS bushings with poly. The stock rubber IRS bushings are VERY soft and allow a lot of differential...

    2001 Cobra brake pad thickness

If BOTH pads measure on each wheel measure that, I would say you are fine for at least several thousand miles. I usually replace mine when they are 1/8 " or when one gets down that low. 1/8" = about 3mm. Yeah, I'd say the dealer was smokin' you. But, I also would check them myself. And, you...

have you ever had one of those days?

Hanlon is a great guy and really helped me when I rebuilt my T-5. Glad your experience was good, too! He will actually rebuild your tranny for parts plus a great flat labor rate. The shipping gets a little pricey, though. Good luck with your pan problem.

have you ever had one of those days?

Check out Hanlon Motorsports - T5 and Tremec parts, sales and service. I used to live in the area and used him for T-5 parts; he's very knowledgeable. Or, ProMotion Powertrain might have the parts you need. Good luck with that oil pan. I think you'll have to drop the K-member for that...
