Anyone Try a Convertible Top Install?

It's a glass window. The old top that I stripped off had a plastic window; the zipper had rotted away and torn into several pieces. When I compared the new window to the old one, I noticed that the line on the new window was in a different spot. At the time I thought to myself "looky there...

Anyone Try a Convertible Top Install?

Yes, I did put my own top on my '72 model. No, it didn't turn out perfect. Here's the lessons I learned. 1. Buy a really good staple gun. Not a "stapler." A gun. 2. Pay attention to how the old top comes off. Check the lines that the manufacturer put on the new top CLOSELY. Don't...

    ammeter

Many factory "ammeters" were actually milli-voltmeters with zero pointing straight up. You can tell this type of meter by the small gauge wires going to it. Usually one lead is connected at the alternator (or voltage regulator) and the other lead is connected at (or near) the battery. When...

    460 in a 71-73 Stang?

My Mustang came from the factory with a 351C/FMX. When I bought it there was a thrown rod and a hole in the block. Ran into exactly the same thing you are: 351C's were like unobtanium. This kinda rambles, but I'll try to describe what I went through to make the swap. It sounds worse than it...

Bad news for me and my 73

"A little bondo and a little paint will make a Mustang what it aint." Didn't I read that (or something similar) somewhere?

Bad news for me and my 73

You've never met Larry face-to-face, have you?:p Alarus: I'm glad you survived the accident, and I hope and pray you are on the mend. Maybe you should change your user name to "Lucky Dog." But you probably don't feel so lucky, do you? Wayne.

    my 71 ???

Thanks Pushrod. I can sleep a little easier now. I'll get out of this discussion now, since I have thoroughly displayed my ignorance regarding FE engines.

    my 71 ???

You're right, the "Boss '9" was the late 60's cammer motor. Stupid me.

    my 71 ???

Hey Pushrod. It's not my intent to hijack this thread, but... Here's a picture of the nose on my '72 model. Are there any major missing pieces that anybody notices? BTW: I have a spoiler, I just haven't installed it yet.

    my 71 ???

After looking closer at your picture of the nose, I think I see brackets on each side of the front license plate that aren't on my '72 model. Those might be brackets that were added in '73 to meet revised safety standards, so your car might even be a '73 model. Then again, it's also possible...

    my 71 ???

Getting back to the question in the original post, I suggest that you have a 1971 (or possibly 1972?) Coupe. It certainly didn't come with a Boss 302. It probably had a small-block 302 in it, and somewhere along the way someone thought it would be cute to put "Boss 302" decals on it. Or maybe...

    my 71 ???

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a "Boss 429" in 1971, and a "Boss 351" in 1971, 1972, and 1973?

    my 71 ???

Isn't this a coupe? Did they put the Boss 302 in any coupes, in any year? I'm just curious. Regarding this car, it looks to me like someone along the way has "customized" it. My gut feeling is that it wasn't a "Boss 302" from the factory.

    Pics of my POR-15'd trunk

It's time to move on... Sounds to me like someone is having trouble sleeping at night... just kidding (sorta). Fly2low, in your defense, there's a reason the phrase "caveat emptor" was coined. Platonic himself admitted (a long time ago) that he should have looked at the car before buying...

    Convertible top installation

Hey John, let us know how your install goes. Even if it takes a long time, I would be interested in knowing if your experience is similar to mine. Wayne.

    Convertible top installation

Go to www.ilovemymustang.com Put "tack" in the search window and search by keyword. The strips I bought are part numbers 94-18592-8 and 94-18771-7. The strips you take off will probably be cork, the replacements are some kind of plastic. I'm sure they are available someplace else, but it...

    Convertible top installation

I put a top on my '72. It was hard. It has a few wrinkles in it, but for a "fun driver" it looks just fine. My wife says it looks great, but she's comparing it to the top that I took off. Are you trying to build a "show car?" If so, go to a pro. Are you really, really picky? If so, go...

    72 front bumper

Tuzz: Where are you? I have a urethane bumper and its bracket hanging on my garage wall. The bracket is a little bit bent, and the bumper will need some patches. It looks like somebody put a floor jack under it or something. If you want it, it's yours. I honestly don't know how much...

    Holley Guru's Need your help!

Well, Mr. Hearne beat me to the punch! We said pretty much the same thing, but I've never let one soak for a week! I usually soak parts for a half-hour or so, and I never soak anything that is plastic. I also avoid soaking anything aluminum. Maybe I just don't have the patience to wait a...

    Holley Guru's Need your help!

    1. If you have the primary fuel bowl off, then there aren't any more screws. The metering block is routinely stuck fast, and I usually take a really thin bladed screwdriver and carefully pry it off. The gasket will probably tear into two even thinner parts. Soak the block in carb cleaner and...
