88 mustang 2.3 Lx questions. new to mustangs

Prior to the aero cars, there was also GL, L, and GLX. Mostly trim level differences, engine options here were either 4 or 6cyl. They went away around 1987 and then it was just LX and GT. LX became the base model with 2 engine options and several trim options.

    Couple of 1989 2.3L questions

I can honestly say I don't remember a return line, but it was 1980-something when I owned my '79 Bobcat. :) The harnesses are engine and to some extent, model year specific. Hopefully someone will come and fill in the gaps, but I believe the first run of EFI cars (86-90...except 1990...

    Couple of 1989 2.3L questions

What are you going to do about the fuel system? The mechanical pump that fed the Pinto's carb can't feed an EFI system. You'll either need to find a way to put an in-tank hi pressure fuel pump in the Pinto's fuel tank, or lay down some bucks for an aftermarket external EFI pump. The EFI...

    Not-So-Simple VIN Number question...

The dash VIN is the standard reference. The title's relationship to the vehicle you have in your possession is solid. Even if the car isn't.

    need help please

Check the rag joint down where the steering shaft meets the rack. It's probably gone. Pretty common problem. Do a search for "Rag Joint" and you should find all you need to know about replacing one.

problems with my tach cel is on

I doubt very seriously it's the ECM 223 and 224 are common codes for dual plug 2.3s. Most likely culprit is the ignition module mounted on the front of the intake manifold. Otherwise it's coil packs.

    Diesel Mustang?

OK so the Perk and the Duetz might fit, but how much power are we talking about here. Not very much. All of the diesels mentioned here are old technology. You're not going to just drop in some 4cyl. diesel out of a tractor or industrial machine, drop it in a Mustang and start banking 45mpg...

    28 spline yoke?

You wouldn't happen to know the model year of the 2.3 car you got the driveshaft out of would you? Glad you got it back on the road!

    28 spline yoke?

The 5.0 and the 2.3 5spd driveshafts are the same. I don't know who you're talking to, but they're either misinformed or feeding you a line of crap. There are 3 engine/tranny combos that use the same driveshaft. 5.0 5spd 5.0 AOD automatic 2.3 5 spd The 2.3 auto is different in both the...

    28 spline yoke?

If you've got the right driveshaft, you should already have it. EDIT: Sorry, just saw your previous post. I wasn't being a smartass. Seriously though, all T5 equipped cars and 5.0 automatics have the correct 28 spline yoke.

    91lx convertible questions

Did you check the thermostat? It could be causing some of the trouble you're seeing. That car should have a coolant reservoir. It must have been removed previously.

    91 wont start

A quick check will tell you if it's the timing belt. Pop the round plug out of the front of the timing cover. Watch the cam gear while someone cranks the motor. If it turns, the belt isn't broke, if it doesn't move, well...

Turn signal and blower motor intermittently working.

To get by until you replace the switch, when the blower and signals don't work, gently turn the ignition key backwards until it meets a little resistance. That typically puts the ignition switch slider back in the right place and everything works. I did it for over a year with mine before I...
