the only difference is the tach in the 96-98 goes to 8000rpm I believe whereas our tachs go to 7000rpm...not much of a difference I can see...if your motor can spin that fast I definetly would not rely on the stock tach.

well you guys are about to laugh at me forever....I replaced all that stuff..then I couldnt figure out what was wrong still...so i went back through it...had fuel, checked spark again and there was no spark, so at that point i'm like wtf is going on...checked the plug that goes into the side of...

just went and got another distributor with new PIP sensor, car still will not start. I"m at a loss now...I dont even know what else it could be...I also replaced the TFI and coil today and still no luck

replaced the pump, ICM, and coil. I'm starting to wonder if somehow my brand new distributor failed already and the PIP sensor has gone bad over the period of 2 days...thats really the only possibility I can think of...any more ideas of what to check? would a bad MAF sensor do it?

car still will not start....any way i can check the fuel pump without dropping the tank?

not sure if it helps but the last few days my car has been surging and the needle on tach would jump around about 500rpm and the car wouldnt go faster or anything but the tach was jumping...

ok I just towed the car home and now I can hear the fuel pump prime...so now i'm at a loss as far as what to check...could the pump still be the problem and still be priming?

Thanks for all the replies guys, i'm waiting for my buddy to come help me tow it home with his truck, then i'm gonna replace the pump and see how that goes...i'll let you know what happens

car has spark, but when I turn the key to on the fuel pump is not turning on...would this be a sign of a bad pump or an electrical problem? and also if it is the pump, should I upgrade to something better than stock or would that just hurt my gas mileage having the mods i currently have

any way this could be the TFI? and where is that located

well I thought I had the car fixed by replacing the PIP sensor, everything was fine then all of a sudden the car stalled while driving down the road at about 40mph, and wouldnt start back up....any ideas?

not sure if its the same problem but my car had stalling issues and then got to the point it would stall all the time and then wouldnt start back up...I replaced the PIP sensor in the distributor and it solved my problems

just used a can in my car...the smoke show was unbelievable...tons of smoke coming from the exhaust for at least 10 minutes...car idles so much better and drives great now...I put half the can in the gas tank, about a third in the vacuum line, and the rest in the crankcase...should I change the...

after adjusting the timing the car is running 1000x better than it did before all this started...idles perfectly smooth...probably partially from the seafoam i used right after i got it running good...that stuff smoked like hell for about 10 mins and then the car runs great...IMO a very good product

Just went and bought a new distributor and ICM, dropped in the dist. and the car started first try but I have to adjust the timing bc its running like crap right now...should I go ahead and replace the ICM for the hell of it or just take it back and get the money?
