You Deff need to shim the pinion, but I have never done a ford where the carrier needs to be shimmed.

I see the 555's are $115.00, but the 555r's are $169.00. Is $169.00 about the best I will find?

Yeah etch primer is actually and acid base and etches into the metal for the best possible adhesion. As for paint go with any Urethane black. Stay away from Acrylic Enamels and Laquer they will not hold up worth a crap. The best place to go would be an Automotive paint supplier. I would...

Are you looking for something quick such as spray can? If not you can sand it and Get some Self Etching Primer and then paint it black. Any automotive paint store has Etch primer.
