Getting Another 5.0...just A Little Different

1985 Ford F-150 by Critic_Man, on Flickr Bought a 1985 F-150 RWD Auto last night. It is indeed carbureted. Thanks for the forum link as well as the differences between the motors. Condition is as you would expect for an '85. I have a nice list going from my recollection on my Stang as far as...

One I am looking at in an hour is an '85.

Getting Another 5.0...just A Little Different

Been a while since I've had my supercharged '93 5.0 hatch and sadly not getting another Mustang but instead a late 80's F-150 with a 5.0 V8. Just wanted to check in here to see a) what differences there were between the motor in the Mustang and the F-150, b) what I should know about carburetor...

What r Some simple Deletes to make My 87 Stang Lighter with little Appearance Change?

In addition to the jack, remove the sound dampening crap in the trunk/hatch area. Someone on here has done a full breakdown (list and weight of items) showing what can be removed and how much weight it saves you. I believe the sound padding was like 15-20 lbs.

Buying tokico hp's should I get springs with them?

I had the full Tokico HP Blue Shock & Spring setup, purchased as a kit, on my '93. I loved it. Quality setup, really changed up the handling dynamics (in a positive way). I think I paid $350 for the entire setup back 5 years ago.

How to Delete Smog Pump and Reroute Belt / 302 5.0 Mustang????????????

IRC you just need a smaller belt. Do a search, this has been covered a lot and I know the belt size is mentioned in there. I ditched mine when I went to off-road H-Pipes. If you haven't ever had it out of there, you'd be surprised how heavy the smog pump is along with the pipes to the cats...

1993 Mustang K&N Filter Cleaning Question

Did you clean it before oiling it? Yes there should be signs the oil fully saturated the filter, but it should not be dripping through as this is a sign of overoiling. I always hate dealing with cleaning these filters - it never feels like you are doing it right and it is no wonder the MAF...

Oh $H!7 Something popped (electrical) car died and smoked, won't crank now

LOL. I got an e-mail notification of a reply to my post. Yes, it was fixed LONG time ago (probably says so higher up). I ended up getting an inline fuse holder of appropriate value, near the battery (I forget which it was, but it is listed in this thread or another). No longer own the car...

    Cats=torque?or no cats=topend?

I went no-cats. Mine were rusted and therefore inefficient. I had an exhaust shop custom make me an H-pipe the day before I dyno'd to connect my shorty headers to my magnaflow catback. In addition to the noise, there was a serious SOTP gain in power. Do I have the dyno #'s to back it up, no...

    Suspension gurus come in here

Well aren't you special, LOL. It was a long pizza run. When I did it several years back, it was during the holidays, sitting in traffic, waiting in line for pizza, then more sitting in traffic. It sucked. I didn't need an impact gun to do any of the work. Simple hand tools and a couple of...

    Suspension gurus come in here

Wow you sound like me! I had performance parts always just sitting around waiting to go on when I had the 'stang. Never had time (or failed to make it). If you can get the parts all tracked down and get 1-2 friends to help, you can have all four corners of the suspension replaced in no time...

    Suspension gurus come in here

With stock components, you have at least something needing to be replaced. A great suspension refresher would be a budget set of shocks/struts and springs -- look for KYB or Tokico (the route I went, very nice results) for a fully matched set designed to work together. Not expensive. While...

    noob question...

Yes, they'll work and I second the recommendation of Thumper. Check out the results he has gotten with them -- a great value, especially if you have an extra set already.

Mostly stock. Which blower: Powerdyne, Paxton, Vortech?

Well, car has been sold for about a month. I went with the Paxton Novi 1000 and it was a good choice. New owner had the time/money to put new injectors in with a new Pro-M MAF, new fuel pump, and UPR boost pipe. Said it really woke the car up. Talked to him last week though and he is selling...

    Fuel pump dead!

Yeah, and fusible links are a pain! But they can be the cause of so many problems. As Hissin suggests, check out Jrichker's postings. His were very helpful in fixing my past problem.

    Quick Intake Install Question

Yeah, getting it to TDC means you know for certain where it is when it comes out and where it should be when putting it back in. Marking it works too. Just be careful. When installing my intake, I marked it but somehow it got moved enough to make things way off. This required getting it to...
