I had the same problem about a month ago, it would start then immediatly die, but would eventually stay running. I replaced the ignition switch and the lock cylinder in the steering column and that fixed the problem. I only spent $20 on both parts. Cheap fix.

I've just bought an '89 Mustang Gt about three weeks ago. The last week it has been giving me problems on starting. As soon as it starts, it dies. (it may run one second or 5 seconds) no stumbling, the tach just immediatly goes to zero. Sometimes it takes about 20 starts before it stays...
