Manual Rack Coupling Size To Manual Shaft?

IIrc, the stock and flaming river manual racks have a 9/16 spline in the input shaft, with a flat to index. You are correct that the manual and power steering racks have different size input shafts, requiring a different coupler. I just swapped a Ford Manual rack for a Flaming River and it fit...

    Holley Carb Question

Done that many times. There should be no reason they just don't screw back in. Make sure the threads on both the needle and block are clean and not damaged. Iirc, there are some cork or similar gaskets that go on them that may make it harder to start them.

Trunk Mount Battery And Nitrous Bottle

Looking to install the trunk mount battery setup in the 82. Looking for suggestions, does the battery work better for weight dist and access in the right rear corner and move the nitrous bottle forward? Or put a plate or bracket in the spare tire well for the bottle?

Ok, final got to installing my Flaming River manual rack in place of my worn out Ford unit, today. Actually fit perfectly. The rack input shaft mated perfectly with the stock Ford rack coupler, a D shape type. The outer tie rod ends screwed on nicely. Bushings fit. Off to the alignment shop...

Water Pump Back Cover And Bolts

I don't need any, I just wanted some extras. I have in the past needed them and just ground the heads thin on some regular bolts.

    Afr Head Install Question

I am old and my memory faded, and I forgot to check my build notebook. I had a set of ARP head bolts and washers that were on the iron gt 40 heads, since they were from a 351 Lightning. So it all fit back together. Sorry for the false alarm.

    E7te Heads Installed Backwards

It may be more trouble that its worth to get the inserts, install them, etc, than to just swap the heads around. Just get another pair of gaskets and its done.

    Salvage Yard Build

Wow, that's a nice 82 GT! I love the TRX wheels, and still have a set for my 79 Capri. I would be preserving most of that, especially the nose and such, those are rare. My 82 was a straight six GL non ac model that I trailered home for $50 and went from there.

    90’ Heads

I did that math several years ago and spent $800 overall on a set of iron Gt40s. Well worth it. I had a valve job done and added better Comp springs, retainers and locks. Just took them off and sold for $300, to put on AFRs. Agree with not spending much on stock heads, but go with AFR...

Fun Stuff From My Waterpump Swap

The engine is in my 82 Mustang, and I just wanted to get away from needing the idler on the drivers side to run the fanbelt after I took off the power steering. Just cleaner, etc. Taken about 12 years to get there. The shortblock was assembled in 1987 and has 95k street miles and several...

Fun Stuff From My Waterpump Swap

From my long awaited swap to a clockwise waterpump on my 82. I cut my thumb in two places taking bolts out of parts motors in the shed. The supposed cw turning new waterpump needed metric bolts for the pulley. Explorer 5.0 bolts are US, but 2.3 four banger bolts fit perfectly. Go figure...

    Engine Need Alt Bracket Help

I have a stock alt bracket from a 1980 Capri 255 in use, in photo. I may try the tensioner on it to see if it will still reach this belt. This has worked perfectly for 15 years, I finally can afford and want a nicer and more compact setup. Phone call to March today suggested one of their...

    Make A 90-93 5.0 Engine Harness Work With A 89 Dash Harness

Ran into this way back trying to use an 80 engine harness and the 80 dash harness with 82 gages. Did not want to use the 82 engine harness because it was for a straight six and had two many wirenut connections from the previous owner. Smoked the alt gage. So, I checked the pinouts at the dash...

    Piston Choice

I have used two sets of TRW L2482F forged pistons. One set was installed in 87 and has 95k street miles and is still in the 82, with a number of passes .and some nitrous. The other set is in my 79 Capri good with maybe 10k miles. The valve reliefs in these clear the stock head valves, and...

    Engine Need Alt Bracket Help

Finally installed my standard rotation waterpump this weekend. Went to install the CVF racing alt bracket and found it did not have a spacer configuration to line the alt pulley up with the crank and water pump. Had to reinstall the 1980 255 Alt bracket, did use the CVF adjuster. May have...
