I would suggest getting a program called desktop dyno. It was put together by an Irish engineer and its is quite acurate. The biggest help will be that you can change the cam specs and see the results instantly. I believe its good to 5%+- actuall numbers. We use it in our engineering program...

I would suspect the the cam. Not sure about the specs on your cam, but one that will delay the intake valve closing will increase flow at top end.

so what about this backfire? it goes off in sets of twos or threes and its always when i shift into 2nd or 3rd. its coming from the engine compartment

is it fairly easy to replace lifters? also, occasionaly, my car will back fire a bit when i shift into 2nd or 3rd. could a bad lifter casue this by holding open a valve? If i replace the lifters, could the backfire go away?
