    Tremec and the 65 Mustang

Okay, long time before an update, but here goes . . . The transmission works great . . . no problems. It's REALLY WEIRD having a 5th gear in my girl. I got on the interstate, cruised up to 3k RPMs and relaxed . . . and then I remembered I have another gear. Wow . . . dropped to 1,800 and...

    Sticky: I6 to V8 conversion

If we're just talking "light" and smooth, what about a 302, aluminum heads, and a really nice, programmable aftermarket EFI? Put a REALLY conservative, efficient cam in it, a nice TKO transmission, and some 3:1 rear end gears? Add an aluminum driveshaft and some intelligent but efficient...

    Sticky: I6 to V8 conversion

Okay, there are JUST OPINIONS, okay? I'm not an expert on the "weight of things" per se. 1. Don't laugh, but the original I6 setup, all things considered, could be the way to go. It's got zero electronics, nothing "extra", and an old school I6 will run and run and run. If you REALLY want to...

15x7 wheels with aftermarket disc brakes

That sounds like what I'm running. In all honesty, I'm looking at going to a 16" wheel soon. I'm just not finding a good selection of tires in 15" sizes that fit my current wheels. I just don't see a lot of wheels out there that jump out at me.

15x7 wheels with aftermarket disc brakes

I've got them on my '65 with 15" Cragars . . . no issues at all.

    289 needs more power!

Aiden, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!!! Love the car! Here's my 10 cents (my 2 cents are free). I started out with a 289 in my 1965 (Peg). I did all the go fast goodies stuff (intake, carb, cam, exhaust, MSD, etc . . .). It was a lot of fun building that little motor up over 18 months. To get me...

    Tremec and the 65 Mustang

Thanks for the great response. I've found TKO's on sale online new for $2,600 . . . so I figure another $200 to $500 for shipping. I found a "TKO Kit" for a vintage Mustang, and it was about $4,000, and got excited. The gigantic "but" here is that's $4,000 for an installation kit, but there's...

    Tremec and the 65 Mustang

Okay, I need your help here, guys. I'm getting some work done on my '65. Texas has a friggin' inspection, and I'm getting a bunch of little stuff done. I'm at a reputable "Restoration/Repair" place, and they were doing some impressive things when I was in there. I'm comfortable with their...

    Anyone else have a copilot

Okay, not one of our Mustangs, BUT all of these could be in one of them at any given time. LOL!

Advise on hood scoops 65 Mustang

Not going to lie . . . I've never noticed that! LOL! I originally got the hood because I put a (nother) 351W in, but with the big(ger) air filter, it wouldn't fit under the normal hood . . . shown below :) : There's a 351W under that hood, and the little Shelby scoop is for looks, only...

Advise on hood scoops 65 Mustang

It's not a scoop, but I have a Maier cowl hood, and I really like it. The thing went right on, and I'm on my second paint job (probably ready for #3), soon. One from 2001 (hood is 6 years old here): One recent: BTW,, the kid in the picture is now driving Lisa GT's mustang in college...

    T5 vs Toploader 4 speed???

I'll echo some of the things the team here has said. Probably any transmission will work . . . UNTIL you start dumping the clutch and getting traction. I'm old, and my setup is old, but, for the most part, we're both still running. :) In 1994 I updated my '65 coupe with a 351W (409 stroker)...

    Power brake booster recomendations ?

Hey Viper, an option is a "manual" Baer M/C setup with a disc setup. I was VERY hesitant to try a "manual" system with a 4 wheel disc setup . . . for some years, but I did it and I'm "relatively" happy with it. Let me explain . . . I have a "manual" pedal setup and not the power unit on my...

Disc Brakes . . . Completely Utterly Frustrated

Excellent observations my good man! Wilwood recommended that setup to me, as well. I found out the same thing i.e. there are different pedal setups for a manual and power system. The power systems have something like a 3:1 ratio while the manual systems are 5.5:1. I REALLY wish this would...

Disc Brakes . . . Completely Utterly Frustrated

Latest update: We put a pressure gauge on the fronts, rears, and directly at the master cylinder. Max on the rear was 500 PSI. Max on the fronts was 800 PSI, but it was both feet on the pedal and breaking the seat back. Pressure at the master cylinder wasn’t different, so there’s no...

Disc Brakes . . . Completely Utterly Frustrated

I've got the MC for 4 wheel discs, so I'm supposedly good there. Today, I DID learn that I have a whopping 500 PSI at the front calipers (should be 900-1,200), so . . . I think we're narrowing down the problem.

Disc Brakes . . . Completely Utterly Frustrated

I've heard the same thing i.e. you need a disc / disc setup on the MC. That's what I've got, of course, and it still doesn't work. I want to believe that's the problem, but, sadly, I can lock the rears just . . . sort of . . . but not the fronts. And I've seen a bunch of great reviews for the...

Disc Brakes . . . Completely Utterly Frustrated

Hey, thanks for the heads up there! We're going to put a pressure gauge on the calipers and M/C to see what that reads. If we're around 900 PSI, then we'll probably pursue something like you're talking about. I'll let you know what happens.
