In the BMW's defense, I can almost guarantee it will have less problems in the long run than the others, even after the warranty period, and all new BMWs come with a 5 yr full maintenance warranty (or is it 3 yr? I forget). And the ~15000 mile oil change interval makes the expensive oil changes...

I'd recommend going to a mechanic (transmission specialist if you can find one) for the T-Lok install. It ran me 2.5 hours of labor (which was lower than his initial guess of 4-5 hours) and little stuff like differential oil. If you are fairly mechanically inclined, I hear it is still tricky...

I am going to have to go through the same thing here in Upstate NY. I just got the T-Lok in, and I'm hoping I can swing some snow tires at some point. How much did the rust-proof cost you? I hadn't thought of that, but it sounds like a great idea.

If you filled with 91 or 93 octane without tuning for it, you might even end up with late combustion (in the compression cycle). I'd reccommend against it, but I'm not a mechanic :p

After having driven a mid-size eurpoean 4-cyl diesel (it was probably turbo, I forgot to check) for the last week, I can easily see a European-style 6-cyl turbo diesel getting good performance and gas mileage. Oh yeah, and the Europeans have the whole pingy-diesel noise problem solved, it seems.

The GT also comes with an 8.8" T-Lok differential and different rear end gears; the V6 comes with a 7.5" open diff.

Ford may not do it, but there are aftermarket fobs that will do everything.

In my experience, this is not necessarily illegal, but most dealers won't allow it.
