    SuperDave here: checking in

T'chele, Cheapie so and many others What a thrill that I am still remembered here. I've seemingly kicked my Stagnet addiction but I fear than it is only in remission rather than permanently cured. For an ol' guy, I'm doing well. My vision is about what it was after my stroke in 03/03; I'm...

    SuperDave here: checking in

Wow! It's been a great summer here in Washington (state). Drove my trusty 64 1/2 convertible more this year than the previous 25 years combined. Hello to all my friends on Stangnet! SuperDave Author...

    The "fly-by" is over!

I can't say that it hasn't been fun but I'm going disappear once again. My other interests are calling! Like "The Terminator", I'll be "B A A A A A ACK!" Merry Christmas! SuperDave

    Starter housing shot

If I may interject Starter problems can SOMETIMES be traced to a poor ground or battery cables with too much resistance. The cables degrade internally and do not provide the amperage to spin the starter/engine. Cables may LOOK OK but check their resistance with an ohmmeter. STRANGE that the...

    Why's my coolant brown?

Why only 20%? Prestone recommends a 50/50 mix. Water wetter only reduces the surface tension of water allowing it to flow with less resistance ergo better cooling. A THROUGH flush involving serveral cycles of fresh water followed by a period of warming up are often necessary. A sticking...

    Starter housing shot

Ring gear teeth I can't imagine a starter "falling out" without having done ring gear damage. It the starter operated while misaligned the bendix and the ring gear didn't mesh properly. Replacing a ring gear is NOT a pleasant task but to ignore problems is to ask for premature failure. You...

    Quality quarter panel?

Look for "Made with Ford Tooling" quarters There are certainly "cheaper" quarters but any saving evaporates quickly in the increased cost of labor. Several of the vendors offer them. Check your catalogs. Replacing a quarter properly is challenging even for the experienced.

'Mustang II front clip into a 1967'.

"MONEY" is thesage here. The work of which you speak requires skill, tools and time. Unless you can do the conversion yourself, you'll be dropping several thousand dollars in labor alone. (I can't imagine you'd pay less than $50/hr for qualty work.) Finding some one to actually DO the work...

    Lighter Glass

Alternate idea Just removing the spare tire would eliminate more weight than replacing the glass with plastic (and it would cost a WHOLE lot less). Why do you want to reduce the weight? Serious weight reduction cost BIG buckos!

    Why's my coolant brown?

Brown is NOT BEAUTIFUL Brown (or rusty) coolant indicates corrosion. If you recently "flushed" the system, I would wonder how and how well. Regardless, I would again THOUGHLY flush the sysytem even if it means having it done professionally. Flushing a badly corroded system often take several...

    Lighter Glass

Have you considered...... lighter air for your tires? :rlaugh: Safety glass is there for a GOOD REASON. Any weight saving by substituting it would be minimal and the risk would be huge. IU believe that your insurance company would agree. Originally cars had plate glass in the windows...

New rims and tires today....will 265/50-15s fit?

Actually...... I'm running 265X65-16's on my F-250 4X4 and they're great. Anytime you push the design parameters, you'll compromise the handling of the vehicle. Of course you can always jack it up to accomodate more tire if you think that's the way you want to go. You'll sacrfice SOMETHING...

    Starter housing shot

Do some detective work Remove the starter assembly and examine the flex-plate for damaged/missing teeth on the torque converter ring gear. NO replacement starter will compensate for a damaged ring gear. Manually roll the engine over 360 degreesto do this. Report the results.

    The "dumb" question

Yo, MONKEY! Hey, this is FUN like the "old days"! If you have "stupid" questions, FIRE AWAY! :rlaugh: How are things in OREEEGON? BTW, I'll go away soon! SD

New rims and tires today....will 265/50-15s fit?

What makes you think "bigger is better"? How do you feel about "bottoming out" every time you run over a pavement joint? If looking "kewl" is important, go for it! Seems like thoses tires would be better suited to my F-250 4X4. SD the Elder

    The "dumb" question

Understood! I know that "stupid" is commonly used, but, IMO, incorrectly. I meant my commentary to be friendly and encouraging to the "newbie" here. DON"T APOLOGIZE for "ignorance; we are ALL ignorant to some degree. The difference between "ignorant" and "stupid" is like the difference...

    Is this ok?

Bending brake springs? :nono: I'd be reluctant to bend a brake spring. The springs are proably old and might be crystalized from previous bending. Be sure ALL of the brake hardware components are in their proper place. Test your self-adjusters PRIOR to installing the drums. Use you...

    The "dumb" question

Those of you that post "dumb" questions need not consider them "dumb". We all started as novices and we're here to help. Doesn't a "dumb" question deserve a "dumb" answer? No one will get on you for being ignorant; stupid maybe, but NOT ignorant. Ignorance is a temporary condition; stupid...

porting and polishing cylinder heads. ARe these gains feasible?

Feasible or possible? You question if the results are "feasible". Feasibilty is a different question than than if the results are "possible". Which is it? SD
