If its happening when the fuel is low in the tank, its a fuel pump problems. Ford pumps arent like Chevy's which will leave you stranded when they die. Fords tend to die slowly and then leave you stranded. I'd swap the pump, cheap fix.

Ive been thinking about doing that, just as preventive maintenance car has 151,000 miles on it. I have had the car 5 years, never put a pump in it. It might be the original one. Ive swapped 3 of them out on foxes and pretty sure its the same operation.
