In the late 1960's early 1970's I remember frequent pictures of a 65 or 66 Fastback drag car in HotRod Mag and some others. The unusual thing I remember was the paint. I can guess the base color but don't want to mislead you. The car featured stripes on the rear that went across the axis of the car, not parallel. The stripes went diagonally and sloped to the front from top to bottom. Anyone remember this car?

That must have been ten or more years before I subscribed to Hot Rod. Sorry. Do they still have their archive up with covers?

I have no idea, I quit buying the magazine when I entered the military in 1973. No time or place for cars then. Not quite true, I did have a 1971 Pinto 2 liter with a header, cam, and weber carburation. Had a nice, deep lope when it idled but turned to a high pitched scream with RPMs. Stiffened the suspension and the car took curves like it was on rails. Was a real fun sleeper! For some reason it kept breaking the frame mounted pivot for the clutch....

I’d laugh at this except for an encounter with the high school drag race team on a test and tune day in my (stock at the time ) 5.0 SROD 79 Mustang. It was embarrassing to get repeatedly beaten by a car length or two by a Pinto with a cool paint job and a sewing machine/small air plane sounding engine. This Pinto was one of several donated to the buddy rial arts program. It had flames in the front ove black paint, and the tiger mascot on the sides. I got good views of the side and tail lights.
Sticky tires might have helped, or they might have finished off the SROD transmission sooner. Now the teach is across town, I should go back. I still do not know where the helmet is packed from moving.

After owning a number of 6 cyl BMW's to include a couple of "M" cars I have often thought I should build another Pinto, hard to come by here in Germany though....

Computer crashed and lost all my pics ,it is now back on the street. In race form it had a tube frame ,narrowed 9 inch , full race 1969 351 windsor and a fully built Art Car C4 .
I will see if i can find a pic or two somewhere

The stripes were much more vertical and it was not tubbed, closer to a street car.

Something like this but with only two colors
