1965 mustang clutch size and type question

hello,
I have a T5 behind a 351w in a 1965 mustang with a cable clutch and pedal from modern driveline.
The fork on my clutch is set all the way back pressed against the housing.
Why is this and how do I fix it?

Also,
What size clutch should I be getting and which is the best type for cost/power handling?

Thanks guys.

if by preload - you mean its essentially like your stepping on the clutch pedal then your not fully dis_engaging the PP.. so without the cable connected can you move fork back enough to get freeplay? if not the sleeve is too long or the pivot or some part of the fork assy has an issue

if you get freeplay with cable disconnected then the cable itself isnt giving you full travel somehow
