^^ This ^^
This is what I have been thinking about today. Aside from the mountain of dust piling up on the engine, the fact that I chose to mount that ugly-assed EDIS-6 coil on my valve cover has always been a point of contention for me.
I decided that I was gonna change that.
That first required I place a phone call to Taylor wire to inquire as to whether or not I could get the wires I need w/ the EDIS coil sockets in a custom/longer length so I could relocate the damn coil pack in the first place. It got located on top of the valve cover because the wires that I bought weren't long enough to allow me to place it anywhere else ( or at least I thought I couldn't back then.........I don't even remember anymore). The phone call ascertained that I could in fact buy the wires in a semi-finished state w/ the EDIS sockets on one end made permanent, and the boot end customizable ( which is opposite if you've ever bought a trim-to-fit Taylor wire set before).
Dude said that I could name my length, and he'd make me 6 wires all that long, and I could cut them down as I saw fit for the bargain basement price of 85.95 before shipping, which is almost what I paid for the set that will now become scrap. Just for my information, I asked him just how long I could have them made, before there would be a drop in the wires ability to conduct the energy from the coil to the plug. He said 10' was the maximum.
10" eh? Maybe if I was putting the freakin' thing in the trunk.
I think I'll be OK, I'm only having him build me wires half that length.
The good thing here is that I'll be able to get that damn coil pack off the valve cover, and plug those 4 holes w/ some 1/4" rivet or something similar, and the coil will be free to roam wherever I see fit to relocate it to. I have a place set aside for right in front of the intake manifold between the radiator and it that I think will work fine, and I'll set about building the mount bracket to make that happen.
In other news,..... The mesh that I'm using as filler panel pieces is one of the items that I buy from my new found metal supplier here in town. It's a .060 thick piece of mild steel w/ .063 holes staggered .120 off center from each other.
I go to my guy last week to buy the cut piece I need that will act as the center for the newly fabbed console, and he says that he sold the last piece this morning.
DAMMITT!!!! When will you be getting more in? I asked. He says he wont.
DAMMITT!!!!!! But I need that stuff,.....Can you get any more? I asked additionally. He says Nope. Not unless I want to make a "minimum order" of 500.00 for him to order more in.
DAMMITT!!!!!! I only need this one small piece, 5.625" wide x 51" long. And I'm not paying 500.00 for that, that's for sure. Who do you think I could get it from elsewhere? Still searching. Have you tried McMaster Carr? I think they sell this stuff he replies.
I check with them and they do in fact have that mesh, but they wont cut it, and because I need 51", I have to buy a half sheet..........lengthwise. @ $148.00 before shipping.
No! said the finger.
I get online and find it. Online metals will cut to my size, but will only guarantee the cuts to be w/i .125" of ordered cut size.
DAMMITT!!!!!!!!!! What choice do I have?
I order the stuff and hope they're feeling accurate the day they cut my order. 35.00 for the piece, 16.00 to ship it. 51.00 for a piece of mild steel w/ a bagillion holes in it.
It arrives tomorrow. I guess we'll see then.
