Here,.....going back to Old blues thread (considering the above is referencing a statement I made over there)

I'll let you in on some of my "making it look/sound easier than they are for the rest of us" mad skill set.

HOW TO DO A GOOGLE SEARCH:
by Mike Matkosky.
To be clear, I never had a problem finding and buying the correct flexplate once I knew I needed it. My issue is that I didnt do my research outside of asking you a few questions, to know I needed a different one from the one I already had from the C6 I was replacing. When I had spoken of swapping in a T5 for the C6, you made it sound like a 4R70W, trans controller and 37 minutes later I would be rolling down the road, and with much more ease than putting in a T5... I had to learn that starter and flexplate debacle on my own newb time, after wresting the 4R70W into place under a gosh darned Ford Ranger. You did not hold a gun to my head by any means, so I will slow my "MadMike is a bad influence" roll by 49% from this point. Unless you have further need to debate, I consider this case of Judge Judy as over and on to Maury, and we can get back to the Gila Monster.

So if you wanted to add an index to the first post, you already have the permissions.

I was asking because I have the ability to grant the permissions necessary for you to do it, if you didn't have them already.
Uhh Negative Ghost Rider,.....there is no "edit" button on the first page of this thread.

Pipe down Iowegian. All I'm doing is pulling your leg. (out of the socket).

I have a weird kin-ship with you because of where you live. If you think I rag you through this venue, just let me live down the street from you.

Ok.
Now that I've been assembling my index at the front of this build, I've decided I'm getting old.
The progress I was able to make only a year ago looked like I had a team of beavers working with me. Now, one year later I seem to have stagnated on what has to be called my bridge to nowhere.

The dash.

I've spent the last two day working straight on that thing, and when I post the pics that'll follow you're gonna say to yourself "what's changed from the last time he posted pics of this damned dash.?" To that I'm sayin'
I KNOW, RIGHT?

Nit picky sh it, that's what's been happening.

Let me ask you.....How hard was it to hand form that piece of steel that follows the bar, given that it's 1/4 wide, and 1/8" thick? How long did it take to finess the damn thing so that it fit the curve radius or the bar w/ only the slightest margin showing? How long do you suppose it took to make an exact duplicate that is behind the mesh as a weld surface for those screws to go into?

Got any guesses?

FOR FREAKIN' EVER that's how long.

Next question.

temporary_zps70c45fa4.jpg

How many 4-40 taps do you spose it takes to tap this many holes?

Got any guesses?

FOUR!! it takes four of those weenie assed taps to tap this many holes, despite oiling the hole, and being ever so careful, that gay little tap snaps off w/o even the slightest provocation or warning. The next hour immediately following that event spent hammering, and chiseling what reamains of the busted ass b itch, trying to fracture it out of the hole, (which is now screwed all to hell).

It hasn't been all bad. I did manage to get the column hole trimmed out that will go through the dash.

The top, and bottom sections just kinda merge in the middle. I'm kinda proud of myself that I managed to get that to fit together so nicely.

One more chip away from being able to paint the damn thing. I said it in my last post when I posted a similar pic of the dash that I had all of this trim out crap in front of me first. I decided on using the Ron Francis light switch that came w/ my wiring panel, that's now mocked up as well.

Now all that is behind me.

I also got my cupholder dilemma dealt with. These things came off Ebay. They are a little bigger than I wanted, but I think it's better to have them big enough for a "Big Gulp" then not, so what the Hell.

One day I'm gonna clean all of that crap out of the car.

If that part can do the job, what a great idea! He may be going too fast to enjoy the big gulp, but it will still be cold after setting a speed record at Boneville. That's much better than the fish tank idea someone had.

Obviously you arent going to change them (and Im not suggesting you should), but can I ask why your outside HVAC vents arent set out at the ends of the dash like in most vehicles? Something in the way, or just because?

It's a symmetry thing Nick. The driver side forced me to put them out there. If I woulda grouped them in the middle there'd be a gap at the ends so it's a 6 of one, half dozen of the other kinda thing.
As it is, the bends that turn to make up the door pull/arm rest start immediately after those vents, so I think that they'll work out.

Besides,...I had to leave that space in between the center vent, for the CYCLONE dash placard if I chose to use it.

That all makes sense, and sounds like it will come together nicely. I wasn't remembering the door pull going in front of the dash. So where's that team of beavers to help you button it up this weekend?

Well, beautiful weekend, but the wife decides we're driving 7 hours to Shreveport today (at the last minute) to see my AF son before he goes TDY to Guam for 6 months. So very little forward motion on what could've been a pretty decent opportunity.

This is a very cheap copy of the Flaming river real deals that cost like 400 dollars before the horn adapter. It's vinyl as opposed to leather, and those tubular spokes are actually just friction fit between the rim and the hub. A real cheesebag copy, but at 75.00 plus the 60.00 adapter, I'm in it decently enough to change it out if it starts to bug me.
The other thing I did was fix the "how am I gonna see out in the cold days w/o a defrost vent" problem.

Part of a Vintage Air kit, these little dudes will do nicely. I'll paint/dye them the same color as the dash which ever way I go on that...... (YTD)
