I liked that exhaust tip. And I don't think the shape of the exit is gonna effect the oil dots on the back, and I hope that this new exhaust exit is at least oval shaped and centered. Maybe a inline duel can cantraption where what the first can don't catch the second does before being suck into the intake, I admit I know little about boosted engines, all this oil mist and blow by can't be the sign of a good ring seal, but I could be wrong, way off base or just the ramblings of a guy that drinks too much coffee.

Well,..I made it.
It's gotta be placebo effect, but I'd swear that it runs smoother.

The exhaust tip has a distinct sound now,..and bumbling along at 2800 RPM, I can definitely hear it loudly purring back there.

You can tell the cruise-in season is winding down,..there was only about half as many cars as is typical for this venue,..but still about 50 cars,..maybe more.

Of particular note :

image.jpeg

This guy takes a 67 GTO, and completely transplants a 2006 GTO into the shell.
Even the interior looks like the newer car...so freakin cool.
image.jpeg

The Monster's grandfather was there,....
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

Sportin' newer Lincoln DOHC running gear.
This guy is always there...48 Anglia with a 484 c.i. Cadillac engine...he says it's scary to drive...I'll bet it is.
image.jpeg

The " poor mans Challenger"...perfectly restored. A 383 6 pack/ pistol grip shifted 72 Cuda.
image.jpeg

I prefer the Cuda any day...and I'm sure that this guy isn't poor.

Then there's me....

image.jpeg

All by myself w/ my single tail pipe self..
image.jpeg

I don't think it matters one little bit that the old tail is gone,...MOF, I think the rear looks cleaner w/o the old tail pipe.

Now,...is it any cleaner....we'll have to wait till I go back down there,...my knees are screaming at me,...I'm done standing today.

I really dig that GTO!

The monster’s butt looks cleaner without that big old thing dangling off of it in my opinion too.
There you go,...I agree. It lowered the rear facade when the tail pipe was there,..now it's just cleaner. And I looked,..it's much cleaner on the rear of the car. The new tp is angled away enough to get the exhaust out of that vortex behind the car.

There is still so much that I need to learn with my fuel mgmt system,..and being able to tune it.

While I was driving it last night, the same part throttle miss occurred that has popped it's head up Everytime I choose that accel path..A slow, steady casual pull through the gears nets me a slight miss, or stumble in that part of the map. I have no clue whether it's lean or fat there,.and it complicates matters greatly considering that the engine never gets hot, so I'm not sure if AE is adding fuel or not.

I know Steve, ...@a91what . All of this guessing would be less of a crap shoot if I'd datalog the pull, but i wasn't planning on tuning it last night,..I was trying to drive it.

I also think I rattled the engine again,...( which only seems to happen when it's in a high gear, with a lot of load on the engine..) it's so hard to tell anything when you're trying to drive, and sht like this just rears its head unexpectedly. After that I slowed the car down,..dropped it into low and hammered the throttle.

Tore the tires up through second gear,....it's my Timex watch. Takes a licking,....and still keeps ticking.
Any other car I've ever had wouldn't have tolerated this much detonation...I keep thinking that I've probably hammered the rings out of the motor.
On that note,..I went down and started the car this morning. You'd think (again, very un-scientifically) that an engine started cold, with ring seal issues, would puff, or smoke until it got a little heat in the engine.

Not this one...it runs just as clean as can be expected. So,.i don't know what to expect here.

Like Collin,..money doesn't just fall out of the sky for me...and the prospect of even a re-ring could mean a large portion of 2018 spent down I'd hate to have to tear it down. ..the car runs. It actually runs pretty damn good now that the fuel system is fixed. aside from the engine venting issues,..( and the tune glitches) only needs a few things to be the best car I've ever built..

Mike post a copy of the tune you are using currently I will pull more timing in the low rpm high load area of the tune.

I will need a log to adjust fuel just driving a to z like normal after I adjust the timing...

To be sure you understand what I'm doing I will try to use an app to record my pc screen as I'm doing it while I do an audio layover.

OK Steve,...at your leisure.

I made a really long DL for you here starting from dead cold start and ending at full operating temp w/ a couple of no-load throttle jabs.

In between are several 3rd gear slow tip in rolls to 100% TPS. IT's here where I experience detonation as soon as the turbo gets to 11 p.s.i..
The first pull occurs at the 336 second mark...The second at 383, the third at 523...( this time I've got the pump and fans recirculating water through the A2W IC) I bounce it off the rev limiter at 839. (I stabbed the throttle from a slow roll) and I'm jabbing the throttle in park at 968. The DL shows 12.5 AFR/ 14.4-1 degrees timing during this,...I'm inclined to bump the AFR down to high 11's here,..and maybe scrub a degree or two of timing,...but I'll hold till you look at it. It didn't do the "miss thing" this time although maybe you'll see something in the log.
To me,..everything looks really close,..save for the fact that I cannot get the engine to get hot, and stay there,. I'll let it run in 3rd gear at 3k RPM until I manage to get the temp to register north of 179,..(on my gauge) and as soon as I shift into 4th and let it cruise,..the temp will come right back down to 150 degrees on the ECU. It runs really good excepting the high gear pull. And be advised,..it's only detonating when it gets into high boost there...In the lower gears It's probably happening too except I cant hear it over the engine raging, and the tires screaming.
Maybe I just resign myself to roll back on the boost duty cycle a point, and let this thing only make 9 p.s.i?
The throttle response is there,..I do not need any more accel enrichment in that area.

Mike I made the changes we spoke about over the phone, I was not able to get the app to run. darn cheap laptop... I'm glad I got to look over the tune for you again. oh I did not make any changes to the boost duty table I will let you do that at your discretion.

I tell ya I should be a multi-millionaire. I should always play the lottery, religiously stop at every casino I pass, and bet every sporting event that I can.....

Cause I'm the luckiest sonofabtch any of you guys know.

While I'm considering a placement location for this future catch can /puke tank I'm gonna make, I start looking and pokin around under the hood. I look under the car,...big giant puddle again. I check the dipstick,...it ain't registering.

I jack the car up in front so that I can get under there, and notice that the gilmer belt that drives the oil pump looks to have moved way forward on the pump pulley. I touch it with my finger to see if it is in fact hanging off, and it is...
Furthermore, the entire pump is dangling...barely hangin on by two of the 4 bolts that originally bolted it on. Two bolts are long gone...
You'd think that in a critical component like an external oil pump, I woulda used locking fasteners, but nooooo...for whatever reason,..I didn't even use lock washers. And now the whole fate of the engine is dangling by two loose bolts...only by some miracle are they still there, holding that pump.

So,....yeah...lucky again. The car has already had an oil line blow off once, and the engine almost ran dry...now by some luck of the draw, I catch what surely would've been the end of the monster engine with nothing but a few threads to spare.

Anybody wanna go gambling?

You couldn't hear that thing flopping around in there ?

Guess not with the beautiful sounds of the " Monsters " heart beat. This would be a good time to go over a bunch of bolts.

Where'd the oil go ?
