None of that changes the fact that I love the car...especially after the third Jameson.

It's been said that Im a malcontent....
Hard to please, and easily bored...

I guess the Jameson fixes that? (up to a point?!)

I know exactly how you feel though. I want to get this car done so I can sell it and buy a drag car or trade for one. Well buy a new house out in the country with a shop...not a garage...and go drag racing again.

But...................I don't want to go drag racing.....

Drag racing hasn't been drag racing since they coined the phrase "bracket racing".
And Bracket racing is the farthest thing from a drag race. Anytime the opponent has to either:
A. Wait at the tree to give the other slow ass lane a gigantic head start...
B. Slam on the brakes before the finish line to keep from going TOO FAST..
That ain't drag racing.
Words like " consistency" and " reaction time" enter the conversation when you talk to a bracket racer...which are immediately followed by a yawn, and my silent thought's of " so fckin what?"
When I drag race somebody, I don't care if I had to have an alarm clock at the tree to wake me...all I wanna be able to do is run his ass down and blow by him before the finish line...and I don't have to do it consistently,...one time is all I need.

Alternatively, Head up drag racing has gotten stupid expensive, so that would leave me wondering as to why anybody would spend a dime on any car if they can't afford to do anything except bracket race.
Leave the thing alone...power builds inconsistency. And part breakage.

A 100000 mi. 1987 Crown Vic in drive will be just as consistent ( and mind numbing) as any other bracket car that has all of the delay box, trans brake, 2 step, traction control, throttle stop, and air shifter crap on it that bracket racing has brought to the market.

Organize a grudge night where the guys like you, me, and Craig can bring what we drive to the track and run what we brung...
Then I'll return to drag racing. And part breakage .

One things for sure though........Now you know exactly how I feel.

They had one of those nights at my local track. It was awesome... with a bunch of people out of the track for safety issues.... but they got their one run. That's what brings so many young people into the street racing scene. You build a car and run it. The only thing that matters is who crossed the finish line first.

I think safety is very very important... the rest of that time elimination crap needs to go out the window. Ive seen a woman with a stock cavalier when the brackets a couple times. There is skill in running constantly but I'm with you, Mike. Im not going to spend thousands on a car that is in 9.50 time slot that can be beaten by a 16 second cavalier. I'd rather buy a Prius and run that.

The street racing events at the tracks around here are great.... but over run by rice burners.

Mike that would be just your average T-n-T night with the fellas. That what me and my buddies do. Or a private track rental....which is expensive if you don't have enough guys.

I've done both and now, with a $2000 weekly payday to the winner....I see a business opportunity. With just a single channel delay box, a 2 step, line lock and trans-brake, I took home money the last 10 times I took that 83 Regal to the track, I brought home at least $150 to the plus. Made to the finals 2 times and we split the dough. Back then winner got about $1000 and runner up was $500 so $750 was pretty nice. That's minus entry fees (and buy backs...um maybe once). Not counting fuel, truck fuel, beer, ice, food, beer, etc. (My brother drank a lot of beer!)
He wants to build another Buick. I want something that weighs about 2400lbs and runs about 6-6.50 in the 8th. Does it on 93 octane Kroger pump gas. And does it 365 days of the year. Do it with some belly button engine, that parts grow on trees (and Craigslist). A Chevette, (I had a neighbor got a trashed GN, took all the turbo stuff off and put a 650 Holley on that bone stock V6 and it would run high 10's in a Chevette) a Monza, an Escort, or a totally gutted Fox with fiberglass panels. Consistently cut .50x to .51x lights and run the number. Take home money. Don't forget to put gas in it next week. Wash rinse repeat. A guy we ran against back in the mid 90's funded starting his own transmission shop from his winnings.

That's when we knew we had 'arrived.' He would avoid us in staging lanes after I put him out twice in one night. Heads up is fun. But it's all about who has the most money. Bracket racing is about the last affordable fun form of racing left. My nephew spends more on his motocross bike than I would on a bracket car. But I could make a lot more money winning than he can. And I don't have to worry about shorting the triple and face planting.

Awwww Drew! Quit being part of the problem, and start being part of the solution.
Consistency equates to boring as hell to watch....and what does that prove?
That your car runs the exact same every single time? All I gotta do is watch you race to know how many plug wires I need to keep hooked up on my engine to beat you then......
Why even bother making it fast?
I'll tell you this: when a Chevette that runs high tens can be beat by a Chevette that runs a 20 second 1/4 .there's something really wrong with that picture. And knowing that..again, why bother building one more horsepower than what's required to move that hunk of sht from one end of the track to the other?

There never woulda been muscle cars if the objective was to build something that ran the exact same et.

Bracket racing isn't drag racing,...it's the end of drag racing.

And who the hell does this as a business? Bracket racing draws the single handidly most clueless spectator of any racing venue out there..last time I checked, you bracket race boys only bring your friends and family to watch,..Because that type of race doesn't attract an audience passionate about one car getting to half track before the other car could even leave the line.

Especially when the one car takes 15 seconds to get to the 990' mark.

The end of drag racing is rich people developing right next to the track then complaining about the noise, paying off the politicians and closing down the track. What form of motorsports draws any real crowd nowadays? Who has the money or time they can spend away from Facebook to attend such a thing?

Uhhh pro wrestling, MMA, UFC to name a few..

That may be true as well Drew.
But bracket racing sure as hell isn't helping things. NASCAR has its following based on the individual driver's fan base. The NHRA used to have the same thing. All it takes is something exiting to watch, ( read, no Dodge Neons racing an 8 second drag car) a little rivalry, and some money thrown at promotion, and local heroes could draw grudge race crowds every week.
( I mean who wouldn't want to see me get my ass spanked by some Mustang here?)

Here is my take on bracket racing, some racers used this as a way to hone their skills and learn how the car reacts to upgrades, one guy I know started in the slow ass bracket 4, and several years later was running the same car in bracket 1 with consistent 980's. Within a few years he was piloting a rail for a mid level team.
i agree it was mostly boring unless your buddy had to run down that 18 second vw (that was a fast vw bug back then) without breaking out. So I saw bracket racing as a stepping stone to bigger things.
Unless you died of boredom first.

There's nothing worse than sitting at the tree for 2 seconds or more watching someone drive away. If you don't have a crossover box, you've got an itchy trigger finger and either red light or fall asleep. But it's like Jack or Jameson. Everyone has their flavor.

But seriously who watches this :poo: anymore? I remember when Super Bowls would get a 40 Neilson. That means 40% of the tvs in America were tuned on to the game at some point. I bet Sunday, if you take NHRA, NASCAR, NFL, World Series, NHL, any :poo: stain UFC fight and add them all up, it's not even a 30. But just in America, I bet 100 million are on Facebook or Instagram, 100 million are snap chatting pics of their saggy junk to some toothless hag, and #Trump will go oh, 2 Billion times.

The thread gets more play than almost all of the above!

It's like I keep saying.....this thread is more like Mike's community garage.....if the light is on, and the garage door is open, you know I'm in there, and I expect folks to drop in and talk about whatever...

I like going to the track for cash days no trailers allowed so they have to be street cars. I still have no chance of even qualifying but it's fun to see a 4wd Cummins supercab truck spewing coal run almost 6sec in the 1/8 mile doing heads up racing. It's a fun night

Well Hell..."

The Comet tail lights arrived yesterday.....I paid just enough attention to them to unwrap one of them,....size it up to see if I could make it work, and then drop it back into the box it came in....

241981-1000-0-jpg.jpg

This is a 1970 Cyclone. It's way too wide to use the tail lights from this car..the fox body is just to narrow.
So, I got these instead...
maxresdefault.jpg

Same thing,....only one of those lenses are missing. ( I'm keeping the Cyclone center I've made' and those big assed lights are as long as the Shelby lights are.)

Don't matter though,.....look at the opening size...I guessed that to be similar to mine height-wise....
image.jpeg

Not hardly....the Comet lenses measure 5.5" high...id need probably an extra inch above and below to properly mount those lights to give the same effect.. My opening IS 5.5" and its rectangular...id have to find a way to soften the opening like the yellow Comet and "round off" the rectangle more..And then I gotta deal with the depth issue...those stupid lights are about 2.5" deep.
I'd have to recess the lights a mile into the trunk to make them work...What's the finger say?

If I keep them in their factory housing.

Now,.......on the other hand,..........if I cut the top of the lenses off,...( say,...just the top 1/4-1/2") .and make a new rear housing that uses my existing mounting surface, and extends into the trunk,... (so I can get those lights at the same stand off that the Shelby ones are at presently).......

I could make THAT fly...but I'd end up destroying the 100.00 eBay Comet lights if I fail.( maybe damage something else too while I'm at it with my luck)

Don't know if this link will work... but they found your prototype.... guess it won't work.

A guy from " ellisons machine shop " is reviewing a custom built 600 hp 310ci engine. He has a yt channel but the straight 6 isn't on there...or I couldn't find it. If you have fb look at ellisons machine shops page.

This is a screen shot....

600hp....2hp per ci....

Imagine the turbo on one of those....

I watched it...
It's a 300 i6 with a radically altered and welded up head made out of three 351c heads.
As much as he's gushing over it I wonder what he'd say if he saw the Monster.

Despite all of the radical head work, everything beneath that can be bought.
And Ford actually made the engine with a removable side cover plate.
( wonder what he thinks of guys that cut open the side of the engine where there wasn't a cover plate to begin with)
it's a cool engine, and I remember reading about that thing in the 80's when it was first built...its a prostock 6 banger, and
I'd bet it won't idle at 500rpm.
And despite the fact that I'm using a turbo, my c.r. isn't 13:1.

If I turn the boost up to 12, and make 500.
That's 2hp per c.i.

Maybe I'll make a video, and send it back to dude.

The monster engine is way cooler than that....imagine if you had sold the great Gila Monster and its engine landed on his doorstep.

The engine you created is absolutely amazing.

Just thought you'd get a kick out of that " old tech " engine.

So far this day has started out as a big win, and a damn shame at the same time....

Last week I started trying to find a trunk deck for the eventual conversion that is gonna happen to the Monster. While I was searching for a trunk, I decided that I may as well search for a hood too. I had planned on putting a glass hood on the car, but at 615.00 while still needing "some" body work according to the guy at fiberglass trends...I decided that I'll just replace the existing hood with a steel one.

If I could find one.

I got online, and found them sure enough, but the price, and ensuing freight to get it to me was gonna be stupid. I decided that I should at least call around locally to try and find it here.

I called one yard,...they didn't have it, but JY's have a interconnected network that allow them to search among themselves. He gives me two phone numbers. I call the first one, and the Indian sounding guy that answered the phone tells me that I'll just have to come down and look...

I don't even know if the car is there,...or if it'll be a sedan or a coupe like mine, but nonetheless, I decided to find out this morning.

IMAG0206_zpse9vhmjxx.jpg

IMAG0207_zpsbzjs30wh.jpg

This is a running V8 car that they decided to set that suv on top of...Every panel was straight when ol dude brought it to them.....

I woulda bought the whole car....

IMAG0208_zpsc5horsng.jpg

Had they not did this to it.

But it is what it is,....I was able to walk away with a new straight hood and trunk for the bargain basement price of 175.00 for both. I gotta wait till 4 for #1 to get off work to go pick them up, they wouldnt fit in my tiny electric BMW.

Damn it......a dead V8 Zephyr Z7......what a travesty..( I'd really like to have a V8 driver.....Maybe I'd cut the roof off, and make it into a roadster like a 1963 Thunderbird.....Now THAT would be cool)

Nawwww....I gotta stay on track. I've got the Monster to consider.

I'm gonna focus on moving the radiator forward today...If I have any strength left after that,...I may deal with installing the other Corbeau...But I gotta go down there and do it and stop pecking away at these keys.
