I have a set of stock bullit anthracite 17" wheels on my car 8" wide I believe , will a 255 50 r 17 fit on that rim and look good on the back , and a 245 45 17 on the front, will that work?
I had a 275 in the rear on the stock tribars (also 8" wide) on my '95. That filled the rear wheel wells decently until I upgraded to 10" rear aftermarket wheels. You wont notice much difference in look between 255s and 245s.
Found a picture of it. This was 245's up front, 275's in the back. They were drag radials, so the softer sidewall made it easier to squeeze them on the 8" wheel.
The aspect ratios on those tires are sufficiently different that they may look a little weird on the same car.
The 255/50 will have a 5" sidewall while the 245/45 sidewall will be 4.3". It may not sound like much, but this results in tires that are 27.1" and 25.6" tall, respectively.
255/50-17s are primarily a truck tire. A better bet for the rear would be some 275/40s like Nick recommended or a 255/45 as was factory equipment on '94-'95 Cobras (which also came with 8" wide wheels. 265/40 may also be a good option as the aspect ratio puts them on par with a 245/45 with a total diameter of 25.4".
My recommendation would be to go with the 275/40s.
The 94/95 cars have a lot more room in the fender wells, and the factory wheels are sucked way further in than yours on your fox. For your setup, I think you nailed it. Your same set up on an SN95 would be inboard another inch or more.

That 95 probably has ABS. If so the diameter of the tires needs to be very close to not piss it off. I think I would go with the 255s all the way around.
