Should I swap 'em in myself?

.....just make sure to have some gear marking compound to check the wear pattern and if you dont wanna buy one , see if you can borrow someones magnetic base and dial indicator to check the clearance .......before you pull it all the way apart turn the pinion by hand onces you have the differential out before you ever loosen the pinion nut ....feel the resistance on it and put it together with new pinion bearings just a tick tighter than it is before you pull it apart ....make sure to have a new crush sleeve and good breaker bar .......and maybe an extra person to help pull on it to crush the sleeve .....they can be a pain sometimes

Maybe you should just find a shop that knows what they are doing....... .

Hmmm, so Gigi's Gyro Hut and Gears wouldn't be a good place to take 'er.

The place I would go is good ... but you never know. How do you propose I make sure they do it right ?

... show up with the Godfather

What he said pretty much nails it...did mine the same way and all the specs were right in the money...pattern was right there too...
I have a lift in my garage so that made it easy...doing it laying in the dirt is an entirely different matter...:D
I used a 5.0 mag write-up as my guide and did the Trac-Loc rebuild to...
Don't be a Sally....jump right in there...:D
Good luck to ya whichever way you go...
Here's a good write-up to...

Thanks for all the help fellers :nice:

The last thing I want to touch on is price ...
I don't think I could trust taking my car to a shop that only charged 100 bucks to install a set of gears in an 8.8 ...
Do they know what they're getting into?

I don't want the glue-sniffer putting my gears in :notnice:
