2000 GT - Does my car have stock gears?

So I'm trying to figure out if my car has the stock gears in it or possibly 3.73's ,I bought the car off the lot (Carmax) a little over a year ago, when you pop the hood it looks bone stock, no cold air intake etc. and it has stock exhaust, ive always assumed no engine work or other mods have been done.

I had the clutch replaced with a Centerforce dual friction and found out the previous clutch wasn't stock and was actually a Luke clutch (had chattering problems).

The reason I'm wondering if the car might have higher gears is it seems im beating other mustangs that I shouldn't be? For example I raced a 06 GT that had a cold air intake and a tune yet I beat him off the line and he never caught me. We raced twice with the same results, when I race GT's in my stock HP range (99 - 04) I haven't lost to any of them either, in fact one time I missed 2nd gear (grind!) and still managed to catch up and pass the car.

The car pulls really hard in first gear, is it possible to tell what gears im running by the MPH vs. RPM? I'm running the stock tire & rim size (17")

Any info appreciated!

ya at about 80 mph though with 3:73 you should be turning somewhere between 2700 and 3000 rpms. my speedo sticks but it should be around there i jus know cause thats my cruising speed on the highway.

I whipped this together real quick, hopefully it finds some usefulness for you.

I've calculated these all out assuming:
245/45/17 tires and OD/5th gear of .67

If your tires are a different size, or you have a different transmission like a T56, these values will vary slightly, but maybe print this out and whip it out one day if you're not able to do the other (proper) method the guys suggested.

Very cool thanks! according to this data im running stock 3.27's , im right around 2000 rpm @ 70mph (running 245/45/17 tires).

I guess the verdict is better shifting on my part? lol

This makes me want to actually do the gear upgrade now, ill just have to debate on 3.73 or 4.10's

Thanks for all the replies! :nice:

If the spedo was not fixed with a tuner than wouldn't the car still think that the RPM and MPH to be the same but you would be going slower?

My car actually came with 3.73 gears and i didnt know it did. I always thought i was driving slow on the freeway, like my speedo said 80 but i was going the same if not at a slower speed than the traffic and i kept thinking, wow i highly doubt everyone is driving 90+ on the freeway. So later that day i noticed one of those police things that tell you how fast your going and i noticed my speed off by 10mph. You can do it this way or jump on the freeway with a friend and talk to each other from your cell phone and see what your friends speed is compared to yours. Either way works.
